What are you working on this weekend?

Hello everybody!

I would love to hear what everybody is working on this weekend. :)

For me, I'm heading out to do some good old-fashioned customer interviews!

I'm about a week out from starting development for my new travel app (more on that later) and I'm taking advantage of my new location. I just moved to Brussels, Belgium so with all the tourists/future customers that travel through the area I'm looking to get some good insights. I'll be heading to Paris and Amsterdam in the next two weeks.

Let me know your plans!

on September 16, 2022

Today I am looking at some MicroAcquire listings! PLan is to buy one with

    • some MRR
    • price point around 15K USD
    • ideally B2B

Also, I am looking at Upwork for Data Science/Analytics jobs. I plan to get into freelancing soon and I am building a portfolio of projects similar to the ones in offer.

Aaand, tonight I am making pizza!

    1. 3

Also look at Hacker News from time to time where people talk about how they make money, sometimes people hint they would be willing to sell. It is a little more likely to be genuine business than sites that attract serial flippers that make sites specifically to sell.

      1. 2

        "serial flippers" haha

      2. 2

Thank you, that is great advice!

    2. 3

You can NEVER go wrong with making pizza 😁

That's exciting with your plan to microacquire a business soon. Quickly builds a B2B side project to be microacquired 😂

      1. 2

Strongly recommend to build something and try to sell it there if you manage to get some traction. The quality of SaaS I see there is not great and it is full of e-commerce businessess.

    3. 2

Let me know how it goes for the microacquire

      1. 1

Gonna update you guys on IH if/when I find a good deal :D

  2. 4

I am working and growing my newsletter bleverd.carrd.co

    1. 1

Awesome, keep it up! How many editions have you sent out?

      1. 1

        Five so far.

  3. 4

Growing my free daily newsletter based around web3 gaming.

I am working on this bottle of wine :) then I will be working on my forms backend SaaS fabform.io -- It's a labor of love. Sometimes like tonight it's just a love of labor.

    1. 1

Hope that bottle of wine treated you well! Glad to hear your enjoying the process :)

  5. 4

    Hey there,

Looking forward to learning more about your project :)

This weekend I am working on
    https://bookbook.space

Currently tweaking how books are presented to the end user and the way they list their read books.

    1. 2

That is cool! What stage are you at with your project? I too am looking forward to learning more about yours!

      1. 1

Nearly there! Still got to refine some of the main functionalities along with some polishing here and there.

By the way, my newsletter subscribers will not only be up-to-date with the latest news but will also have access to the initial beta.
I will also be posting on indiehackers soon so stay tuned !

Anyone wanting to contribute is welcome!

  6. 4

This weekend, I'm working on redesigning the onboarding experience for my productivity tool Sidekick!

It's been difficult to figure out but lots of research both user research and online case studies has helped :)

Good luck with your user interviews! How are you conducting them? Guerilla research?

    1. 1

Hey, just ckecked out the video on your page. Good idea to have it there to show your app to potential users. The app looks great, I'll try it out as soon as I can

      1. 1

Hey! Thanks so much! Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions to make it better :)

    2. 1

      Hey there,

I went through your website and I really like your idea. Still browsing to learn more about your product.

You are probably already aware of this but on mobile the pricing page's text expands too much to the right and you're able to scroll horizontally.

      1. 1

Ah good catch :) I have a release coming up. Going to sneak that in. Thanks!

    3. 1

That's tough! I'm not too experienced with the onboarding process (but need to learn myself), but I recently listened to a My First Million episode where Julian Shapiro guests and talks about it. It's high level, but it may help spur some ideas.

I'm a marketer by background and love talking to customers, so this is the exciting part for me. My plan is simple (not easy, but simple) and it worked last week and also in my last startup though slightly different plan of attack:

      • Head to the Grand Place (most touristy tourist trap in Belgium)
      • Listen out for English or Spanish speakers (what I can converse in)
      • Make a light, kind introduction and offer starbucks on me to have a five to ten minute conversation.

This works because tourists love starbucks and there is one right in the middle of the grand place and also because I think my greatest skill is in conversing over anything. Then I begin my research!

I teach other local entrepreneurs where I'm from in the US on how to get in front of customers so I think your question just inspired my next post here :)

      1. 2

Hey Dave, do share the link to that post here or your blog here.
I would be really interested. Thank you

        1. 1

I'll share on IH this week :) I would link my blog, but I'm currently learning development and using my personal site and my learning grounds so nothing to show quite yet!

      2. 1

That's awesome! That's pretty much guerilla research - meeting people where they are and striking up a conversation. I think it's my favorite form because you're just getting to know people in their every day casual setting. Also the in human connection is amazing!

        Sounds fun!

  7. 3

I'm building AI2sql. AI2sql uses AI to generate SQL queries from natural language input.

    1. 1

Love this project. I have been keeping an eye on this for a while. Brilliant project. I have used SQL a lot at work, and this has the potential to revolutionize analytics. I'd have loved to jump in this place as well. The only thing stopping me is the dependence on GPT (which I don't like).

    2. 1

Sounds complex (at least for me)! Super cool, glad to hear your building!

  8. 3

Working on my landing page. I generated some excellent, almost-usable images with DALL-E 2. I just needed to take the image into Gimp to fix certain parts where the AI got a little confused and f-ed up.

Anyway if you haven't tried Dall-e then you need to, it's pretty magic and it's sometimes better than stock images.

    1. 1

Awesome! I'm a big fan! I was taken off the waitlist in May of this year and have been pumping out images (mostly for friends and landing pages as well) haha love this!

  9. 3

Hi, I'm working on improving https://devle.io, an app for developers to organize and promote their products to the public more easily.

    1. 2

Sounds super useful! I hope you're making good progress this weekend!

  10. 3

I am focusing on learning sql in depth

    1. 1

I'm also trying to learn in depth - for me it's javascript though! Good luck!

  11. 3

Best of luck with your customer interviews! I am working most of this weekend, but I will be recording an educational YouTube video for Apply Medic (my medical school admissions tutoring agency) at some point tomorrow!

    1. 2

Thanks! And good for you! What a valuable tool for people that I know are looking for that stuff. My wife went through the physician assistant track before learning she wanted to go into business instead, but she would've valued something like this!

I'll check back in tomorrow to see if that video is done 😉

        1. 2

Checking back in on that video - how's it coming along? :)

          1. 2

Hey Dave! I really appreciate the accountability haha! Got most of it done today so will be uploading it tomorrow. I’ll send you a message when it’s done!

            1. 1

              Glad to hear it!

  12. 3

This weekend I'm working on my music-related side project: https://muted.io/

I'll be exploring adding guitar chord charts to the chord pages.

Plus, the music theory cheat sheet that I recently published (https://muted.io/cheat-sheet/) is on Product Hunt today! 🎉

    1. 2

      Wow this looks great!!

      1. 1

        Thank you! 😊 😊

    2. 2

Super cool! I'm going to check it out (on PH too)! Transparently, I know NOTHING about music, but I love that you're building and sharing your side project that is in the less common space of what we typically see on here or PH.

      1. 2

Thanks so much Dave! 😎 🙌

        1. 2

You did well on PH yesterday! I hope it gave you a good bump in traffic and hopefully with music folks! :)

          1. 1

Hey Dave, yes, I'm pretty happy with how it did! 😄 Hopefully it keeps getting shared around and continues gathering momentum.

  13. 2

Im working on my marketing strategy for https://mailmentor.io

    1. 2

First thing I'd love to see on that page is a video or animation of some real time typing and grading!

It could also do with a bit more of a value proposition on how it to can help you turn cold outreach in leads.

  14. 2

I am inspired by the recent post from Alexis Grant, on how she generated 1000 signs up on her landing page before launch. I have made a landing page, and I am reaching out to people this week. Marketing isn't my strong point, I am a purely technical person, but I will give it a shot.

My SaaS is about AI based stock prediction. I have played around with machine learning algorithms to predict stocks, with some success. I am now planning to make it into a service. I have an AI background, and I have been doing this prediction as a side project for a while. Now I am planning to build a SaaS around it.

Also, happy to chat with anyone interested in AI based SaaS.

Here is my landing page: https://bit.ly/3UkLPpB

    1. 2

Woot woot! Look forward to following along!

    2. 1

      @meursault me to!

"Inspired by @alexisgrant and her launch of TheyGotAcquired.com I was motivated to push forward" - waiting for my product to get approved...

      I launched: https://www.sellthatsite.com/

    3. 1

Hey. Asides from family and friends, how are you finding people to reach out to?

      1. 2

Right now, I am just posting on twitter, reddit etc. and hoping to get some traction

  15. 2

    1. 1

Lots of writing and building, love to see it! My last professional role before the one I'm in now was as a Competitive Strategy Manager at a large grocery retail company. Love the competitive intelligence space

  17. 2

I'm working on my recently launched SAAS mybookshelf.digital

It's a site which allows users to save the books they've read

    1. 1

That sounds interesting! How are you finding potential users?

      1. 2

I am in the process of indexing site on Google. I am looking to obtain organic traffic :)

    2. 1

Awesome! Hope you're making good progress!

  18. 2

Working on a new essential feature on my app. I got feedback from the customer that it would fit their use case. Hopes are this will be the most used feature on the platform. I planned the technical part at the airport while waiting for the plane. It will play along with existing functions nicely. Excitement is real!

    1. 1

Way to use that downtime for some productivity! I hope it becomes your most used feature too :)

  19. 2

Working on handcrafting some amazing SEO blog posts for our clients at growthingly.com

    1. 1

No way! So cool. I don't have an oculus but I really want one so I may have to do a Christmas gift to myself this year! I'll bookmark this for the day that I do get one :)

  21. 2

Creating more Yada Yada posts for non-developers who want to be more technical. Also, figuring out a way to monetize.

    1. 2

Just signed up for this as I am trying to shift from non-dev to dev :) Thanks for sharing!

      1. 1

        Thanks for signing up!

  22. 2

Wrote the 21st edition of Unvalidated Ideas, along with fixing some bugs for some very patient paid subscribers!

The edition goes out Sunday night and it's already scheduled so I'm free to relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend

    1. 2

Awesome, I've been a subscriber for some time now - I enjoy these pieces a lot! Keep it up!

      1. 1

        Hey thanks Dave!

It always feels like I'm yelling into a void just a little bit every week -- encouragement like this really makes my day.

  23. 2

My team and I have created a new another mini-course based on ideas from a business bestseller: “The Mom Test: How to Talk to Customers & Learn If Your Business Is a Good Idea When Everyone Is Lying to You”

We have added it to our catalog today. https://a3.storist.me/#/courses/how-to-figure-out-what-clients-actually-want

  24. 2

We are currently working on era.sh - a markdown note-taking tool for developers.
ERA is currently in open beta - no registration needed.

Try it out, if you are interested.

  25. 2

I am adapting the code to change pricing structure quickly for my screenshot API. And I hope today we will gather enough players to play soccer.

  26. 2

I'm working on an app that would help entrepreneurs and executives make better decisions – years and millions are lost on poor decisions. In particular, studying the impact of emotions on decision-making. Decision science has developed great frameworks for making sound rational decisions, but at the end of the day, judgment is still required, and this judgment relies heavily on emotions. This research is less integrated into the overall decision science, but there is still plenty of research to study.

  27. 2

I am working on my chrome extension - Meta tags explorer. It shows the meta tags of any web page you visit.

  28. 2

I'm working on an Dropdown App - Hire Influencers in 60 seconds for your social media marketing.

  29. 2

I am working on an app, called gitlapp. The app is a native iOS client for GitLab, enabling DevOps from your pocket. This weekend, I focused on handling deep links to content within the app.

  30. 2

Hey, this weekend I'm working with some friends on something we had not anticipated.

One of us came out of nowhere with Paylink, a payment methods organizer. It's like Linktree, but not only for your social media links, also and more prominently for your payment methods, both crypto and fiat.

It's just something that you can share to anyone that wants to pay you in any way you accept, without having to go to your wallet to copy the address or sending a picture of your bank card or anything like that. It can all be centralized in one page.

We are making it open source and in the last couple of days have turned it into a very useful app. It is self-hosted for now, though that will change in the future.

You are all welcome to check out the repo and make suggestions and Pull Requests.

    1. 2

Very cool, I'm glad to hear it's going well! I can definitely think of valuable use cases with this! Keep it up :)

  31. 2

The initial plan was working on a new feature for https://krumzi.com, but I had a change of heart this morning.
I've bee working on marketing instead of coding.

    1. 2

Nothing wrong with that :) marketing is a muscle that needs flexed too!

  32. 2

I am (after selling yearly subscriptions for two months) putting together a 7-day free trial for our AI video editor, https://nuro.video

This is a test run, since it's the very first time we are allowing users in who haven't paid before getting into the tool. If this test is successful, it should lower the barrier to entry substantially.

The new funnel is sign up for webinar > get free 7-day trial offer > attend webinar > get an irresistible offer for the 1-year subscription :-)

    1. 1

      I'm glad youre making this

  33. 2

Trying to onboard some early adopters on https://www.nocodepayments.dev/

    1. 2

Coooool! Best of luck - do you do live calls, send a bunch of documentation, a little of both? I've never been in a role where I have to onboard users so I'm really interested to learn.

      1. 1

Thanks, Sure live calls are great, will send some resources regarding this.

  34. 2

Checkout the app I've been hard at work on -> NexSnap - Create designer screenshots in seconds! It's a native app for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and even on the Web. 😁

    1. 1

Can you link it in the comments? I would love to check it out! :) What's the plan for this weekend - shipping any features or doing any content creation? (or taking a breather)

      1. 1

Absolutely! https://nexsnap.app it's just a landing page made with notion. By monday if should have a better landing page 😁 anyway, nevermind the landing page. Check out the app itself 🤞 Thanks, Dave.

  35. 2

Stemble [https://stemble.xyz] - an online platform where you can connect with random intellectuals on the internet & discuss anything STEM based on the topic you choose.

really cool.it append a error that '@firebase/firestore: Firestore (9.9.1): Could not reach Cloud Firestore backend',when i access the web.

Super cool! What work will you be doing - dev, marketing, sales, all the above? 😁

And thanks, I will definitely share more updates soon!

      1. 1

Mostly working on marketing this weekend... building a content plan for YouTube.

        1. 1

Awesome, love to hear it! I'm a marketer by background, but learning the development side for half a year now and continuing as I go :)

  37. 1

I am currently working on Alpha Auditing.

  38. 1

It's not the weekend anymore, but when I saw the announcement of the Whisper open source lib by OpenAI, I wanted to make a small web site for everyone to be able to use it with ease.

  43. 1

Evaluating Blazor WebAssembly and NuxtJS 3 for my next project (portal app with lots of data and reporting). So far, I like Blazor because C# everywhere but I am a bit hesitant as it has quite a small adaption. So, I might choose NuxtJS as it seems to be more secure for future.

I’m building an Arabic UI component library with Tailwind. Having a lot of fun with it.

Trying to get through the last push so that I can release the early access version by early October.

  48. 1

I am trying to get my website off the ground (https://anilraok.com).
Right now I am only focusing on writing articles on Flutter, but ultimately I want to convert that into a content curation website. I have started curating and listing good quotes I come across the web(Twitter etc)

    1. 1

That sounds interesting! How are you finding users?

      1. 2

I don't have a lot of visitors. I haven't started promoting it yet.

Some time back I was running an experiment on my website, where I had hooked up an RSS feed from some other website to my website. Then I forgot that I had done that for about a year. So had a lot of low-quality content.

So there is some bad karma(haha) associated with my domain.
I am slowly starting to get organic views.

  49. 1

Trying to work on my side business again after going through some rough COVID times. I teach electronic music production and I need to transfer all my courses from one LMS to another (big pain). So I'm trying to get that done over the weekend in the hopes that the new LMS plays well with the other plugins I have installed on the site.

It's been tough to be honest but trying to find the motivation to get back on top of things.

    1. 1

Out of interest, which lms do you prefer?

      1. 1

I've tried a number of them. TutorLMS is pretty good although kind of buggy. It is quite easy to install and use though and the price is good. Does everything you need it to do if you're looking to sell courses or have other instructors sell courses.

It's not that great for memberships though. So I'm looking into Thrive Apprentice.

  50. 1

Thinking how to communicate my product clearly, simply, and interestingly

  51. 1

Try to find out how i can Integrate my Premium Version into the Apple Payment Ecosystem.

Apple.. is... really annoying that i can't use the same easy System i already have in my Extension also for Apple. Since they only allow In App Purchase over their System.

  52. 1

I wrote a small function for my page that creates random drum patterns and its actually good enough to kick start inspiration, so we decided to create a twitter bot that posts these random generated drums

  53. 1

I’ve been getting my blog a bit more polished, adding easier access to my socials to hopefully convert some twitter followers! Starting to write a small book soon on how to build saas products with Go, with chapters being released as blog posts!

Hope you are doing well. In my case, I've spent about a week exploring the app that manages personal data, business data, accounting, customers, operations, and employees. Use the Lio app at https://lio.io/ to organize all your information.

Working on using science to match travellers and locals based on their personality profiles and interests. Then each traveller is individually matched to a few locals and books a travel activity with one of them https://thecitizenseven.com/

The idea behind is kind of simple: like-minded people are certain to have memorable experiences together, sometimes even turning into a friendship. Our best travel memories are almost always about amazing locals - we just don't know how to meet our soulmates every time we travel - it is always random and a matter of luck

  58. 1

I am working on exposing parts of the source code for https://volca.io/ as open source. The challenge is to exclude certain files and code sections but I am nearly there.

I am thinking about setting a challenge to get some income using nothing but a landing page and words. I came up with this idea (early draft, not fully finished) based on providing a service that I would enjoy providing, https://justthejobs.carrd.co/. I will tweak with this a bit each day, then promote it. Deciding on a price too. Thinking around $199 / month, not for greed reasons but so I can have fewer customers and put more time into each customer.

    1. 1

I don't get it. Why would I keep paying after getting hired?

      1. 2

You don't. Until you are looking again that is.

        1. 1

Why make it recurring? This way your incentive is to keep paying and unemployed as long as possible.

          1. 1

You did get me thinking about that! A one off usage fee for say up to 12 months use might make more sense. Our interests are then more aligned

I am going to try SEOSurfer to see how much it can help me my SEO game

I've been working on a supermarket API - think ingredients prices etc. - as well as a recipe site API for the past few weeks.

As a showcase of the kind of things you can build with it, I've developed a site that allows you to search for recipes across many sites at once: https://recipe-search-delta.vercel.app/. I will be putting the finishing touches on it this weekend.

Let me know what you think!

I'm working on my project Emailgurus.xyz.
It bridges the gap between Google Contacts and Gmail and offers to filter based on that. If the email is coming from a contact, that's fine, otherwise, it gets archived and labeled as an outsider for later check.

    1. 1

Sounds interesting. This is really a daunting task to get the mailbox sorted

      1. 1

Absolutely, this makes it easy, also it's open source so you can trust it.

I am working on honing skills of building small services/apps bundles(web/anroid/ios) so that I can knock out minimal but viable suites of apps after quickly interviewing potential users that have specific pain point. Am doing this at the moment.

I literally just added image uploads to feed entries in madepublic.io!

Gonna be working on comments and getting featured next!

Hopefully it lets users be a lot more expressive with their updates now that they can add images and screenshots.

I was working on update on my menu bar app for macOS. It's called ColorNoise and it is for playback of brown, pink and white noise. It's free now on Mac AppStore:

    https://apps.apple.com/app/colornoise/id1640045375

Especially brown noise is very good for better focus while working and paradoxically for better sleep.

I just released an update with stereo playback of noise for better experience.

It will be probably paid in the future so get free while you can, if you want 😉

primarily incorporating user comments into products and determining what is most practical given our time constraints. We're eager to start using it and keep improving it https://ectipakistan.com/factors-of-52/

We’re laying out our sprint for the next 2 weeks ahead of our 1.0 release of Double! (https://doubleapp.xyz )

Mostly consolidating feedback into features and assessing what’s most possible within our time frame. We’re excited to launch it and continue to iterate!

  90. 1

I have been working on two things:

    1. https://appswithcode.org , a place you can search open source apps
    2. the pact app, an iOS app that makes you truly productive
  91. 1

Trialing another content writer. I am writing articles here or there and have another person, but would like to add one more so that I don't have to do all but 1-3 articles a month.

Content creation is the way to go for gaining customers (my old business had over 1M visitors per year and blogging was my preferred method).

  92. 1

Change your from tailwind css to mudblazor.

I enjoyed the 6 weeks of tailwind css and daisyUI. But since I am using blazer, it’s just too much work to rewrite components instead of using a well designed, high performance component lib

  93. 1

I'm starting to work on a new project about websites performance.

Starting to build all the grounds up for the project,
    Repository, landing page, etc... 😊
