What are you working on this weekend?

Share the cool things are you going to work on during this weekend. Let see how many indie hackers are working in this long weekend.

  1. 4

Just finished a blog post on my current "indiehacker stack" - all the products/tools/technologies I'm currently using to try make things successful.

    https://chrisdermody.com/product-stack/

It's a work in progress but would appreciate feedback :)

    1. 1

I find the grouping a bit odd. CDN and Payments are very different thing. Some goes for Editor and Terminal.

      1. 2

Yeah true, I just dumped that all out last night after some whiskey. Will refine it πŸ‘πŸ‘

I've been getting feedback on Watch Hunt, a site to make finding a watch you'll love really easy.

Shoutout to @AndreyAzimov, whose product Sheet2Site made it incredibly easy to get a demo up and running :)

      Thanks for recomendation :)

I'm going to work on earlystagenews.com and triviahood.carrd.co
I will submit Early-stage News to entrepreneur communities and startup discovery websites. Also, write a blog post, redesign the website and send the first newsletter.

I'll work on the landing page of Triviahood and make it more informative, prepare trivia questions and let people know about the platform
    ✌

    1. 2

how are you collecting data for earlystagenews?

check out startuptracker.io . Nice tool.

      1. 1

        Hey Keyul!
Currently, I'm personally reaching out to makers and collecting information. Also, a handful of makers are submitting milestones themselves. Startup Tracker is a nice tool. Thanks for recommending it :)
I want Early-stage News to be like TechCrunch but for all kinds of milestones and not just the conventional (funding, acquisitions, unicorn status, etc.) and where makers share and celebrate their project's progress.

    Making shoes for cobbler's children.

I mean redesigning my personal website with Gatsby. Right now I'm just focused on learning Gatsby and getting some stuff on there that should be (client testimonials, call to action for consulting leads). But I'm hoping to make it easier for myself to write quality technical content with the idea of starting a newsletter and writing books or courses down the road.

Gonna be doing some target audience research for Dugglo - a bedtime story service.

Side note - if you're a parent of a young child, filling out this short questionnaire would help tons πŸ™Œ

    1. Idea for a SaaS product, seeing if I can make a great website by exporting directly from Sketch, because I love designing in Sketch.

    2. Talking with ambitious people to find out how they track their goals. Maybe I can help them with https://tonyscalendar.carrd.co

Not necessarily 'cool', but I've been testing out CMS options for Frontend Mentor. Currently it has completely static content, as I wanted to get the site live in a short space of time. Now that it's nearly a couple of weeks in I'm going to rework the code to make it more maintainable and then add more content.

Tested out Sanity yesterday and was really impressed.

Would be interested if anyone has any opinions on good Headless CMS options out there.

    1. 2

Check out Gatsby and different CMS options from it

      Also forestry.io and datocms.com

      1. 1

Thanks for those suggestions Abi. Will have a look at them today!

    2. 2

You can use Airtable as a headless cms. I've been using it to prototype my saas and its been surprisingly pleasant to work with.

Other than that, base.run seems promising and then there's always contentful.

      1. 1

Oh nice! Never even looked into using Airtable as a headless CMS.

WIll have a look into your other suggestions as well tomorrow to weigh it up. Cheers

    3. 1

@mattts Check out https://buttercms.com (I'm the founder) - we're designed exactly for your use case

      1. 1

Thanks @jakelumetta, I'll check it out

I'm in mode(MOTHERS_DAY) and I'm telling you that the cake is no lie.

  9. 1

    I'll be working on https://www.launchfactory.io/

Making it easier for users to get quick access to quality software/infrastructure for their startups.

    This means
    -improving search
-installing more analytics for feedback so I can help
    -sourcing more interviews with creators

    How about you @keyul ?

    1. 1

launchfactory looks great. I am working on www.quickcode.co - place to find free programming courses :)

  10. 1

    I’m working on tweetnotifier.com

Not quite functional yet but it’s getting there!

    1. 1

      great idea.

I'm going to continue trying to find marketing and sales opportunities for my application, Dashman: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/dashman

    1. 1

do have any stragtgy for it?

      1. 1

No. I don't know enough marketing to have a strategy. And also my budget is $0, which doesn't help. Right now what I'm trying to do is get to write guest blog posts.

I tried to get blog post about Dashman published in blogs of complementary products, but that didn't go brilliantly so far.

Now I'm looking at my personal post drafts and trying to find blogs in which they can be published. I think I'm having luck with some Java-related posts.

Working on a personal app that has my quarterly tax total, auto-generate my invoice, mail them to my client monthly and displays my daily hours complete, earnings for ytd, and a some cool charts to go with it.

    http://thomasongeri.com/

    1. 1

How do you calculate your taxes? In which jurisdiction does it apply?

      1. 1

Right now it's just using US tax rates. It depends on the gross income of the users.

Working on two things over Palar(https://palar.support):

    1. Evaluating and discussing open-source alternatives to Discourse to present to some of our customers

    2. Finding cool podcasts and blogs where I could share of the awesome experiences we had thus far =)

    1. 1

In your copy, there's a space before a comma that causes in some screen widths, the comma to go down to the next page "Our engineers help with tickets 24/7 , phone calls", just after "24/7".

For a previous startup I hired a company similar to yours. Of course, they could only fix a limited but common type of issues. For me, this sounded like a net positive as many users would get their issues solved faster. But what really surprised me is that when escalation was required, users would get angrier than if nobody ever talked to them. I found this really puzzling and it might not be true for all demographics (these were young adults working temporary jobs for events, marketing, etc). I'm not saying this to discourage you, but to warn you. I see you are on the technical side and you may never experience this problem; or maybe you need to develop mitigation techniques.

      1. 1

Thanks a million for the feedback, @pupeno =)

I agree with you 100%, and that's one of the many reasons why we focus completely on the technical side of things. Going on our 3rd year since our first customer, I can happily say we've never had a situation like that.

Because our team is pretty technical, they can handle the majority of issues without any interference from a customer's engineering team. When there is a clear bug, we can usually suggest a workaround and, even when that's not possible, developers are usually aware of limitations in a product and, as long as there is consideration to their issues and feature requests, they are very understanding.

The only thing that really upsets developers is talking to "customer champs" that have no idea of what they're really talking about. I even wrote a short post about this:

Generating Posters from Source Code and Logos. Trivial idea but hard to get right somehow :-/

    1. 1

      What are the posters for?

  15. 1

I'm working on a little app to help me keep my desktop cleaned up. Mostly to manage the screenshots and links that I save.

Here's the app in progress: https://pasteboard.co/Hn1iDan.png

Pretty excited to have the long weekend to work on it!

    1. 1

need this. Any plan for building for windows?

      1. 1

If some mac users pay for it, that'll fund the development for windows =)

    2. 1

Here's an idea: can you add some context? In Evernote, when you create a note, it adds the name of the current event in your calendar to it, the location, etc.

I think when I take a screenshot, the next two or three apps I use could add a lot of context. I'm likely to edit it, so, Photoshop may come up, but that's not very helpful. But after that, I may upload it, or email it. If you could somehow track what happens to it and add a paper trail that would be amazingly useful (I also constantly take screenshots).

It is possible that to achieve this you might need a service and a browser plugin, similar to what Rescue Time is doing.

      1. 2

I like where your head is at, that’s pretty interesting! I’ll keep it in mind going forward... at this point I just want it to pop up a little window so I can drag and drop the image without having to dig around my desktop 😁
