What are your common problems with cloud providers?

From simple static websites to complex microservices, every product requires hosting, databases, and other tools as essential parts of its business infrastructure. Despite rapid advancements in cloud technology, challenges persist when it comes to finding the right server for hosting side projects or groundbreaking ideas.

While AWS leads the market with over 30% share and quarterly revenue of $63 billion, is it truly the best choice?
Have you ever encountered difficulty and confusion when using an AWS service for the first time? Did you realize that working with AWS, Azure, or GCP demands expertise?
Are you consistently caught off guard by your monthly bills?
What options remain when your code is already integrated with AWS-specific services like Lambda functions, making migration costly and risky due to Vendor lock-in?
Do these services genuinely allow us to focus on our code and business?

Amidst all their benefits, I encounter several common problems with various cloud, infrastructure, and backend providers, particularly AWS:

  • Complexity
  • Costs
  • Vendor lock-in

What challenges have you faced with your chosen provider, and what factors led you to select it?

Which cloud provider do you use?
  1. Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  2. Microsoft Azure
  3. Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  4. IBM Cloud
  5. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
  6. Alibaba Cloud
  7. Salesforce

AWS - insane complexity and equally insanely opaque pricing.

These are the reasons you chose AWS? :D

Ha! The headline asks about problems. 😄

I generally run stuff on DigitalOcean droplets. Because it's easy and I always know how much it costs. It's also pretty cheap.
