What are your favorite developer blogs?

Hey!

I'm trying to learn some of the key elements of what makes a developer blog great.

The title pretty much sums it up. What are your favorite developer blogs, and what do you like about them?

Here's a few that I really like:

Many developers also watch YouTube videos, listen to podcasts, and/or browse subreddits about development. While I don't really understand this, I'd also be interested to know if you create/consume developer content through other mediums besides blogs (especially even more than blogs). Which medium do you think has helped you the most as a developer?

It seems the market for developer blogs is a lot less competitive (or at least less saturated) than other prominent mediums of distribution, which is interesting, because writing and editing blog posts seems like it would generally be less work than something like filming and editing videos or recording podcasts.

If you're a developer content creator yourself, feel free to share a link to your own content too!

labnol.org The reason I got into google scripts.

Nice! I'll look at these - I haven't regularly read technical blogs from software companies, but I see them everywhere.

Is Substack any good from a publisher perspective? Do you get any organic traffic from it?

Some of the developer blogs that I've found to be useful:

    (1) Code Better : Introduces developers to better tools

    (2) A List Apart: Covers all kinds of topics on the design, development, and meaning of web content

    (3) The Steelkiwi Blog: Regularly contributes content about design, development, software support and compliance regulations.

      SteelKiwi looks really interesting, thanks!

My favorite developer blog is the one by Dr. Brian Robert Callahan. I like it because it covers interesting niche projects (e.g. developer tools such as assemblers and compilers) and provides clear explanations that make advanced topics accessible.

I'm a Python hobbyst and consume content in other mediums such as newsletters, particulary PyCoder's Weekly. As for blogs, I subscribe to the firehose of the Planet Python RSS aggregator. I'm not a visual learner, so I focus exclusively on textual resources.

I'm not a professional developer. But, as a hobby programmer, I post also Python content to my personal blog.

Thank you for sharing! Dr. Callahan's blog looks like it has a lot of interesting articles. I'll also check out your Python blog!
