Table tennis ๐ ๐ - I love this sport, I play 3 times a week for 2-4 hours each time. I think it's one of those sports where the better you get, the more you realize how much you have to learn. It's also amazing that 90% of winning is just being focused and confident, if you think you can lose or miss a shot, then you will.
Chess โ - I play daily several 3 minute chess games on chess.com. My rating is around 1650, not amazing, but above average! ๐
Playing the acoustic guitar and piano ๐ถ- I still have a lot to learn about music theory. I recently started playing the piano using the SimplyPiano app, and I love it, I feel like I'm progressing each time I play
Video games ๐ฎ - A lot less often than I used to, now I sometimes play Heartstone (battlegrounds), Rocket League, League of Legends, GTA 5, Spiderman (PS4), Bloodborne (PS4), Trackmania
Thanks, I do them just because I really enjoy doing them and I like having a wider variety of stuff to do to not get bored by any.
Table Tennis was closed in the Netherlands until 1st of July. Meanwhile I have played table tennis in VR at home. There is a really good game/simulator called "Eleven table tennis", physics are pretty close to IRL.
Now the club is open, but with some restrictions (you always have to reserve a table, no doubles matches, no switching sides, clean the table after you finish).
My hobby is gardening and I recently started a blog where I share tips and tricks for gardening enthusiasts. It's been a great way to connect with fellow gardeners and share my passion for plants. Do you enjoy gardening too?
About month ago I started little hobby side project - local plants identification. Now every time I go outside I'm looking for new plants or identifying the ones I already know. It's a little bit like treasure hunting now :) Here's my current collection: https://mdoliwa.com/projects/plants.html
I'm using PlantNet app for identification, and ask on reddit or other forums when I'm not sure about results from PlantNet.
That is so cool actually! It's like the geo-caching hype, but then you'll learn stuff.
Must remember the app for when i get kids, sounds like an fun and cool way to explore.
And who knows you'll indiehack an even better plant spot app!
Yep, I wish my biology lessons were like this. You identify new plants, check them on wikipedia, there are usually some new terms in there, so learn what they mean. Like yesterday I learned about zoochory, or what does it mean that plant is biennial or annual and a lot stuff like this, it's so cool :).
There is also my little indie hacker plan in this, and other projects like this :)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the chess game of physical combat (unfortunately I'm more of checkers kinda guy). COVID has BJJ in a pretty deep armbar right now.
There are ways to train at home, solo drills, drills with grappling dummies, etc., but that requires a training mat, and the space, neither of which I have at the moment.
Collecting Pokรฉmon cards has become a popular hobby for many people due to various reasons. One of the primary reasons is nostalgia. Many adults grew up playing with the cards as kids and want to relive those memories as adults. Pokรฉmon was a significant part of their childhood, and collecting cards is a way to reconnect with those memories.
One of my favorite is 1999 charizard pokemon card (https://collectorpricing.org/1999-charizard-pokemon-card/)
Another reason for the popularity of collecting Pokรฉmon cards is the investment factor. Some of the rare cards can be quite valuable, with some collectors selling them for thousands of dollars. Collectors may view buying rare Pokรฉmon cards as an investment opportunity to build their collection's worth over time.
I do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Karate. I've been doing martial arts for about seven years. BJJ is probably my favorite one because all of the different techniques like chokes, sweeps, and other techniques, are really fun to learn.
I love listening to music. Some artists I enjoy are Kanye West, Logic, JPEGMAFIA, Bjork, Freddie Gibbs, Death Grips, Tame Impala, Tyler the Creator, The Weeknd, and a bunch more. I also make some of my own music, primarily beat-making.
I love fashion and keeping up with the latest seasons of top designer brands. My favorite brands are Hamcus, Alyx, Acronym, Raf Simons, Nike, Rick Owens, Kapital, and Margiela.
I play video games every night with my friends. I play Valorant, GTA V, CSGO, Battlefield, and some Fortnite. I also play a few mobile games.
I really enjoy getting in shape. Working out and dieting are things I do every summer to get in killer shape.
I love watching YouTube and watching all of my subscriptions every day.
Do you fly yourself?
Also, did you find anything cool on the HAM so far? Love these weird conversations people pick up on haha. (Or is it more broadcasting you do?)
Yeah, I hold a private pilots license. The cool thing about UFC is that it's still got a large number of United pilots and mechanics in it. They really know how to fly, and fix planes, so every time you talk with them its like a master class. That and everybody pitches in to make sure the ops go smoothly.
I mostly use my ham stuff for handhelds and telemetry. I've not been transmitting much since I don't have a place to put an antenna now:(
KJ6KZW is my call sign. I just recently passed my Extra rating, so I figure I'll see if I can't make my own SDR transmitter with my new knowledge:)
Uclusion makes the development process a whole lot easier for everybody involved. My cofounder and I were both in large and small companies and developed a strong distaste for needless meetings and having to sit by the email/text message/slack in order to get an idea of what's happening.
If in the united states it's basically go to local small airport, follow "learn to fly here" signs:)
To do it from your house in the states, find the airport on google maps, then pop into http://airnav.com/airports/ and look for flight school or FBOs(Fixed base operators - service stations for airplanes)
Call them and they'll either BE a flight school, or know where the local one is.
Outside the US I would think would be similar at small airports, but you could also find a pilot and as them where they learned to fly, or to help you find a school.
I usually start with Duolingo and Memrise, they are great intros into a language that teaches the basics. After that I like using a spaced repetition flashcard app like Anki to learn vocabulary. After that it's all up to daily practice, and speaking! Watching TV shows with the audio set to your target language with subtitles on is very helpful. And there are sites like italki that connect learners with native speakers to practice speaking your target language. It's a lot of fun!
2019/2020 has been great for astronomy, at least in the Northern Hemisphere:
Mercury transit in November 2019, Venus and Mercury in the evening sky in March, NLCs in June, and now the best comet since Comet Hyaktake and HaleโBopp (mid 1990s), Comet NEOWISE (HaleโBopp had a lot of press, but Comet Hyaktake was THE quintessential comet).
I do also some practical activities such as observing the sky with telescopes, visiting space facilities and museums, watching space launches and events, meeting astronauts and space professionals, and so on.
I have a variety of hobbies. I hike with my dog every chance I get. I spend time with my spouse and children. I try to work the New York Times crossword puzzle every weekend. I like to cook. Get some info about Automatic Screw Locking Machine: https://www.automaticchina.com/
Bouldering ๐ง (and running sometimes): I would be lost without doing sport. Bouldering (climbing in general) is good for solving problem and learning how our body is moving. It's hard, too, and I like hard stuff. It improves my resilience. Love it ๐ฅฐ
Writing ๐: I wanted to be a writer since... I know how to write. It has a powerful effect: it obliges to think clearly, it put what you have in your brain in the real world (it's self-therapeutic), it obliges me to go straight to the point.
Coding ๐ฅ: It was a hobby way before it was my work.
Eating ๐: God I like eating so much.
Reading ๐: Especially books. I find them more interesting (and in depth) than many contents on The Great Internet.
What amazing, can you tell me more about the edible mushrooms?
I have my own veg garden going on, but yours seems next level! And I love home automation so sensors got my attention.
My bad, Sorry in 40 you can go from top to bottom driving.
What you can do here, is windsurfing, hiking...you can do stuff.
But my reason is because we became parents, and we moved here at the same time, so time for hobbies has been shorted. A lot.
I rather build something...
I've always been a reader, but I started writing last year (a novel that should probably be heavily edited and a blog) and more thoroughly embracing the Free Culture types, so I've been hunting down and writing about fiction available under Creative Commons-type licenses. I realize that doesn't qualify as a hobby to some people, but sometimes we need to make our own fun...
I also go for a lot of walks, though less so with a heat wave that only takes an occasional afternoon off.
Cooking probably qualifies, too, and occasionally sewing, when I can remember how to keep the thread run through the damned machine without snapping. Oh, and I'm "into hardware," but mostly only to the point of ordering parts and never getting around to making the thing I want. There isn't much I won't mess around with, honestly, especially if I can screw it up repeatedly in the privacy of my own home...
Wow man, you have a natural writing skill there, Amazing!
How does it feel to write a novel? I have all these ideas, but writing a whole book/novel just seems another level.
Sewing is not one you hear often, nice to see such unique hobbies!
Oh, thanks! I'm not fond of my own writing (it just sounds like a more tedious version of me, to me), so I appreciate hearing that it works for somebody.
For the novel, it was funny, because I wanted the plot's structure to look like the Hero's Journey (specifically, something I could chart out and hand to someone who wanted to rewrite a section, and that's the best-studied character arc), but kept losing track of where I thought I was. So, there were points where I thought I ran out of story and needed to re-frame what just happened as just the cap to that adventure. If I ever do it again, I'll probably have literal charts breaking down approximate word counts before I start.
Just indie hacking
All you need sometimes right!
Wow you have a lot of skilful hobbies! Impressive list.
How is table tennis now with the Covid going on?
Thanks, I do them just because I really enjoy doing them and I like having a wider variety of stuff to do to not get bored by any.

Oh another dutchy, Hoi!
Well glad you are slowly getting back to it.
I am not actually dutch, just have been working and living in NL for about 3 years now. ๐
My hobby is gardening and I recently started a blog where I share tips and tricks for gardening enthusiasts. It's been a great way to connect with fellow gardeners and share my passion for plants. Do you enjoy gardening too?

Awesome, what is your new indie hacker plan with this?
I've got too many hobbies, I like:
Eating is a hobby for sure!
I'm engaged to a chef so we both obsessed with food haha.
Nice list though! Very active person, what motorcycles do you own?
I have a 1999 Triumph Adventurer as well as an old bike from East-Germany called MZ TS150 at the moment. I've had all kinds through the years.
Awesome! Triumphs are so nice and reliable.
Oh yeah, eating is my hobby too! ๐
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the chess game of physical combat (unfortunately I'm more of checkers kinda guy). COVID has BJJ in a pretty deep armbar right now.
I've seen it on Youtube, it looks like an amazing cool sport!
Shame covid has a stop on it for now, are you able to do some work at home for it?
There are ways to train at home, solo drills, drills with grappling dummies, etc., but that requires a training mat, and the space, neither of which I have at the moment.
Ah damn, hopefully you'll be able to return soon.

Anime ๐บ
Hunting ๐ฆ
Collecting wine ๐ท
Sounds amazing, please tell me Dragon ball is in your favorites?
I recently took up gardening. Given whats happening in the world I was looking for a more sustainable way of life.
All I use are the seeds from the foods that I eat. Started making some notes on notion.
https://www.notion.so/d2d6d38264984698acf2d05ea7266efb?v=0daf87abd63c44d9ae90f0644be3d1ed
What an amazing idea! I've been experimenting with some gardening as well.
Will bookmark your notion page :D
Thanks so much will beef it up and keep it uptodate.
Awesome, I'm gonna try it this season, because my current ones are almost harvest ready (only the broccoli survived really)
Sounds like you have a busy life, my friend! I love it!
Also you have a very good skill in responding so big, I'm more of a short as possible answer guy, but envy your skill!
There was someone above who also did BJJ!
Yup, just a boring hobby :)
Nothing boring there!
I mean you must do the things you enjoy, and I know a good book is waaaay better then a movie
Playing and watching football.
Awesome, who do you support?
Chelsea FC
Flying with United Flying Club
Ham Radio (http://www.arrl.org),
Weight Lifting
Raspberry Pi / ESP-32 programming
Not really a hobby but: starting Uclusion
Do you fly yourself?
Also, did you find anything cool on the HAM so far? Love these weird conversations people pick up on haha. (Or is it more broadcasting you do?)
How is Uclusion used?
Yeah, I hold a private pilots license. The cool thing about UFC is that it's still got a large number of United pilots and mechanics in it. They really know how to fly, and fix planes, so every time you talk with them its like a master class. That and everybody pitches in to make sure the ops go smoothly.

How does one even get into flying man!
If in the united states it's basically go to local small airport, follow "learn to fly here" signs:)

Awesome, putting it on my list for "later" when I have some more time on hands.
Snowboarding, anyone?
and lots of other stuff, of course :)
Hello fellow shredder :D
I only do indoor snowboarding ๐ And not super good at it, just something fun to do.
Ah nice! What method do you use to learn a new language?
I usually start with Duolingo and Memrise, they are great intros into a language that teaches the basics. After that I like using a spaced repetition flashcard app like Anki to learn vocabulary. Thanks sounds like a solid way of learning!
Whats your record on the cube?
Iโm still a noob but here:
3x3 cube: 45 seconds
3x3 pyraminx: 18 seconds
Do you cube?
I've tried but not really the best at it haha.
Have some friends in The Netherlands who cube with 5x5
Wow ๐คฉ, I can't even do the 4x4 ๐
Astronomy and space.

I have a 20 cm SchmidtโCassegrain telescope.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_Hyakutake
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C/2020_F3_(NEOWISE)
I remember good old Hale-Bopp.
Interesting! Just reading up or how do you express this hobby?
I do also some practical activities such as observing the sky with telescopes, visiting space facilities and museums, watching space launches and events, meeting astronauts and space professionals, and so on.
Wow amazing! I just love the documentaries on space!
Hi Chris,
you know, I haven't had any hobbie for a really long period of time.
Then when I found my true passion - work I love - I started taking real pleasure in:

Very nice! Just a shame Travelling is on such a hold now.
I have a variety of hobbies. I hike with my dog every chance I get. I spend time with my spouse and children. I try to work the New York Times crossword puzzle every weekend. I like to cook. Get some info about Automatic Screw Locking Machine: https://www.automaticchina.com/
Amazing, the website doesn't seem to work though ;)
Bouldering is so much fun, I just go for fun every now and then, no where near any specific color haha.
Wow Awesome list!!
I must say the one really spotting out is Excel, just for fun making weird scripts?
Here is a list of some of the things I've done with, not mention my job pays well from knowing Excel/VBA
https://t2do.com/showlist2.asp?parent=84959
Impressive man! Have you considered starting an Excel blog or something like that?
I mean I love Excel to do comparisons etc, but have to google every single time.
Excessive travel, motorbikes and weightlifting

Also King of New York, Monopoly, Jenga...
I'll look that one up!
Just coding :(
Nothing wrong with that!
What languages?
Well, I have multiple as well,
Awesome, the "mini" guitar right? (not sure if that's in insult)
Why are you missing out on drawing and sketching?
Yes, the mini guitar :)
About sketching, well, I think these activities are occupying big amount of time, maybe that is why.
Ah sure you'll get back at it in one time.
What amazing, can you tell me more about the edible mushrooms?
I have my own veg garden going on, but yours seems next level! And I love home automation so sensors got my attention.
Nice!
Where are you from with collecting stamps? I'm currently in South Africa let me know if I can ship you some local stamps haha.
Also, what comics are you into?
Just driving the Autobahn or going mental speeds haha?
Swing dancing.
Trying to find a way to embed a video. I've got one in a tweet.
(the dance in this video is called Shag. It's in the swing dance family)
Looks like a good work-out as well! very happy dancing!
Who is your favourite author?
And where are your top hikes?
I love anything by Marie Lu and Blake Crouch.
Top hikes must be Mount Kinabalu and the Garibaldi Lakes!
I have been my whole life doing surfing, body board snorkeling, but since I moved to the ร land Islands all I do is running...
Is there no surfing/etc there? Or why all you do is running?
I must admit had too look up where it was, but is it a big island?
My bad, Sorry in 40 you can go from top to bottom driving.
What you can do here, is windsurfing, hiking...you can do stuff.
But my reason is because we became parents, and we moved here at the same time, so time for hobbies has been shorted. A lot.
I rather build something...
Ah understand! I would say sounded like an amazing place to do all these things :D
Oh yeah, is actually popular for all of that in the nordics...
Playing music (which directly influenced my app)! My band babygotbacktalk just released our debut album Genre Reveal Party a week ago.
Awesome! I'll have a listen to your band
Thank you!

That would definetly happen to me
