What are your thoughts on mentorship/therapy?

Hi All,

I'm super early in exploring a new product idea around mentorship and therapy and was wondering what folks general thoughts are on mentorship and therapy. For those that have positive feelings towards mentorship and therapy are there any challenges or roadblocks that you face? For those with negative feelings towards mentorship and therapy are there any reasons you may feel negative towards trying or continuing mentorship/therapy.

Thanks for all your feedback in advance guys!!:D

I think they are both crucial for our personal and professional growth but…

They are two very different things:

Therapy is for psychologists, while everyone who has deep knowledge on something and loves to share can be a good menthor.

And actually every beginner should find one because finding someone who has more experience than you and is ready to guide you can really make a difference in your career path!

Tell me more about your idea, I think it’s very interesting and I can help you develop the communication and marketing of it:

I’m an expert copywriter and would love to contribute!

We wrote about this niche in our Micro SaaS HQ Newsletter. I am assuming this is something like MentorCruise like a marketplace where we can book mentorship/therapy sessions?

Mentorship and therapy offer invaluable support and guidance. Mentors provide wisdom and insight, while therapists offer tools for growth and healing. Both are transformative journeys toward personal and professional development.

I think they are two very distinct things. A mentor v therapy. A mentor will give you business advice, keep you motivated and accountable, where as a therapist will help you with overall well-being and outlook on a personal level, which will then translate into your business.

Great point by one person below, books and videos can be a sudo-mentor for you, to at least get you a foundation of business processes etc. I too am in search of in-person mentor and I have found books were a great starting point for me.

Therapy.....I will get slated for this and maybe its because I am from Ireland but I think therapy is a load of .... be self aware and have 2-3 good friends and you will be fine.

I see so many ads not for Better Help and many many people endorsing therapy but it is just not for me, I have been forced to go by my ex and it was pointless, I know that maybe I didn't have a good one, but the 3 I had did nothing for me.

I think it is getting too much hype that there is something wrong with everyone, and if you are not 100% happy all the time, there is something wrong with you. Life is tough, actually life often really is sh&t, but that is life.

I would really like to find a mentor but some how I can't find one, any tips?

The common misconception is that mentors have to be real live people. However, here are 3 ways to get mentors right now

-Reconfigure your Instagram feed to only include people who inspire, motivate and educate. Delete the drains
-BOOKS! I had a front row seat to the way Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney built Disney Plus, how Phil Knight built Nike, how Marc Randolph built Netflix because of their biographies. Read them and take notes
-Find someone who is 3 steps ahead of where you are on LinkedIn and research them. Be specific in your line of questions to them. What specifically you want mentorship on. How often you want to meet. How you want to meet (Email, text, phone, in person). And when the engagement will end.

Let me know which of these you adopt.

I am going to adopt the third one, looking for someone who is 3 steps ahead of me on LinkedIn, I am already in some groups, I will prepare my questions soon, looking thro profiles of people in linkedin

I am burned out, I am a software dev who loves to generate new ideas and make them into new products, but I get easily pissed off when I work for things that are more than three months, I don't know whether its a problem because I worked almost 5+ years in R&D department as a blockchain dev. Recently I have turned into a very small product team where I wanted to do frontend, backend, and even automation testing, but was told I was constantly underperforming a lot when compared with other developers, DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GET HELP OR MENTORSHIP?

I think both mentorship and therapy are absolutely important.

I often will use resources and organizations like SCORE where you can get access to free business mentors.

Therapy is also important and I've used it personally to help me.

However, in both cases, it can be hard to find the right one.

I am curious to hear more about what you're working on, has me curious.

Mentorship can be incredibly powerful. For maximum benefit, find a mentor who's 1-2 years further along your path. Their experience is still fresh, making their advice highly relevant. Mentors with wider gaps in experience are still valuable, but that close connection with someone just ahead of you can make all the difference.

So it would be a therapist who also mentors you and gives advice?

  10. 1

What sparked the mentorship-therapy idea? Was it a personal struggle, or seeing others wish there was a better way to get support? Putting your experience out there might resonate with others facing similar stuff. They might have cool ideas to help you build something great. If you're not getting much public validation, however, it might be a sign that the problem you're trying to solve doesn't resonate with the public as much as you thought. It's worth considering at that point if this avenue is needing effort right now.
