π IH,
I've been working on https://buymeadomain.com - a platform where you can post about your startup/project idea along with the domain-name needed & an investor can buy you the domain in return of 1% stake.
I'd like to know your thoughts on this new concept of "domain-name funding round". Do you think this could be used as a way to validate one's idea or even as something which helps early-stage startups or first-time founders get started?
Would really appreciate it! π
I feel like startup founders (specially bootstrappers/indiehackers) would rather buy a cheap domain name ($30) than give up 1% for a premium domain name.
I can see this succeed if you target premium domains. Everyone should be smart enough not to exchange 1% of your business for a 10 dollar domain that you can register yourself.
But I can imagine having a premium domain that is costing a few thousand dollar for your project to start with could benefit and for some people might be worth one percent of their business.
I like the Idea. But only because I am obsessive over Domain names
It might be nice if you could combine this with some work minimum - say, 100 posts - that would deliver more money for the creator, and more value for the investor.
It's not just one domain as well, in some cases, it can be multiple related domains. E.g. One for the main website + One for the shortener service (very expensive) + One for the parent company, etc.
There are variations where the investor will pay recurringly, i.e., every year for the domain(s).
