What books are you reading this month?
by
Rosie Sherry
What books have you started reading or do you plan to read?
Company of One: Why Staying Small Is the Next Big Thing for Business
I have it in my list for this year. Do you like it?
Was the last book I read & really enjoyed it. I even shared it with my buddy who is a self-published sci-fi author, and he said he has found lots of value in it as well.
It's on my list
+1 great read
Such a good read
Atomic Habits
Best productivity book I read in 2019.
Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World
Awesome book
Shoe Dog by Phil Knight and Zero to One by Peter Theil.
The Mom Test - My goal this month is to start talking to potential customers and this book is super relevant for that.
Venture Deals - My employer recently did a funding round and I want to understand typical VC deals
Same here! Loving the book so far. I've really been talking about validating my ideas all the wrong way.
Awesome! what have you been thinking about validating recently? what kinds of target customers are you planning to reach out to?
Trying to see if there is a market for an airbnb for audio equipment, targeting the EDM market.
The problem I've been having is that I've always been validating my ideas with ego driven questions like, "do you think this is a good idea," "would you use something like this"
Nice, thats a cool idea. But yeah I feel the same way - it's easy to ask for that sort of feedback but digging down to people's core problems & desires is a lot tougher.
One of the big lessons I learned from Mom Test, "Nice, thats a cool idea", brush away compliments and continue digging :P
😛looks like you learned something from it!
Atomic Habits by James Clear
“The Mom Test”
...finally!
🤞
Loved it - went through the audio book at 2x. If I ever speak to you in person I might be shocked at how slow you actually speak.
Started implementing those casual conversations right away and it's going really well.
12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson

I typically get through 3-4 books a month (I commute a lot for work, so many of them are audiobooks). I'm an enterprise software consultant working in customer success for VMware, so a lot of my choices are reflective of the day job.
Currently listening/reading:
In the backlog:
I really enjoyed The Phoenix Project. It's a novel, so for audiobook commute is perfect.
The $100 Startup / Chris Guillebeau
I've read that one.
Let me know what you think about it.
Just finished: Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance
Started yesterday: Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell
Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. Just finished The Man Who Solved The Market by Gregory Zuckerman
High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard and Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss
Also inclined towards starting Start Small by Rob Walling
I am reading The DevOps handbook.
It's been widely spoken about it in the Dev and Ops world so i finally decided to check it out and I'm glad i did.
For fiction, currently reading Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
NBA Jam by Reyan Ali. It’s about the history of NBA Jam.
The book I am reading now is about the team.
I want to start a startup.
3 I just picked up from the library:
Superforecasting: The Art and Science of Prediction
and
The Startup Gold Mine: How to Tap the Hidden Innovation Agendas of Large Companies to Fund and Grow Your Business
Great CEOs are lazy by Jim Schleckser
The Moons a Balloon by David Niven the actor - an old book but very funny
Winter World by A.G. Riddle & Atomic Habits by James Clear
(At the same time 🥴)
Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport 📲
Smartcuts by Shane Snow (first 2 weeks)
The manager's path by Camille Fournier (second 2 weeks)
Traction by Gabriel Weinberg.
Just finished reading 'The Mom Test' :)
Finished recently
Reading three books
Rework by the guys at Basecamp
Shape Up by Ryan Singer at Basecamp
https://basecamp.com/shapeup
It's about how to separate shaping the product versus implementing the design.
Currently reading:
In queue:
4 steps - good book
Still going through permanent record from Snowden
I have started reading Mark Manson's next book (Everything Is F*cked A Book About Hope) as I really enjoyed his first one and I'm not disappointed. Fantastic read so far. :)
Started the year with 'Pebbles of Perception: How a Few Good Choices Make All the Difference', and is really good in how it manages to distill in so few sentences such good principles and lessons.
Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger
"A gentleman in Moscow"
