What bothers you most about our landing?

Hey guys, I'd like to know what are the things that bother you most about our landing page https://www.boardme.app/

I have a couple things that stand out (especially on mobile).

I'm wondering if I'm overthinking it though, let me know what you hate about it.

  1. 2

    Andrei, my 2 cents.
The intercom popup is too early, I would wait some seconds, also the cookie banner is very big.
The first text content "Let's make your onboarding..." is very long and scary me to read it, I would reduce the word count and keep just a title and tagline.

The first screenshot doesn't tell me anything about your product, while the one in the section "Onboarding That Looks Good" it's your entire product in a gif, use it!

Also, it would be nice to showcase your product on your own landing page... I don't know show a hotspot, modal or tooltip when you hover the 3 cards.

I'm not a fan of the 3D effect on pics but probably you are as they are all skewed :D, it doesn't add that much, rather makes it difficult to see the pic and waste space on mobile.

Said so, it's a nice tool, I think I'll give it a try

    1. 1

Thanks Luca, great insights, and I agree with everything you said — minus the 3D lol, which you are correct in suspecting that I like. But we got a suggestion for improving that by triggering a short demo videos from those sections that showcase the specific feature, I think that way we could have the best of both worlds :D

On the title and tagline topic, if it's not too much trouble, can you give me a title example that would appeal to you? E.g. "Effortless user onboarding"?

Glad you like the tool, whenever you'd like to chat about it you can reach out to me personally at [email protected], I'm always open to discuss user onboarding!

      1. 1

It's no trouble but it's a hell of a question :D I'm trying to make a landing page myself (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/would-you-plan-a-trip-on-vjago-com-5a3ccb840f) and the above-the-fold text is the most difficult to write

I share 2 videos from YC Startup School 2019 by Kevin Hale, they're very interesting and educative, as all of the YC startup school lectures!

        About conversions and landing pages:
        https://youtu.be/PGqX9fpweyc

How to evaluate startup ideas, interesting at min 24 as it explain a useful method to simplify pitches:
        https://youtu.be/17XZGUX_9iM

Now if I apply the last video technique to your tagline and simplify to the bone I obtain:

title: "User onboarding simple and creative"
tagline: "no coding required" or "hotspots, tooltips and modals without coding"

It's far from being perfect, but it goes straight to the point without too much text that may distract a user

        1. 1

Awesome stuff, thanks for the resources, I am a pretty big fan of YC startup school too! I've been binge watching their videos in the past couple weeks lol.

I like the animations on your landing, and I like your thinking process too - let's stay in touch, my email is [email protected]

Honestly, the site looks beautiful. However, the prompt to accept cookies is way too big. It takes up 1/3 of the screen on my Macbook (13 inch). Then, as soon as I clear that from the screen you immediately bombard me with a chat. Be good if you waited say 15-30 seconds to queue that up. That said, when I click on the chat, I see that it tells me you usually respond in a "few hours". This makes me believe that this isn't a very active site. When I do finally get a chance to review the content on your site uninterrupted, the line "Let's make your on-boarding journey simple and creative" doesn't really compel me to want to learn more. Perhaps I'd rather see something like "Onboarding journeys your clients will rave about" - or something like that. Just my .02.

I'm really glad you like the aesthetic site Jeff!

I can't really add anything to your feedback, I think everything you said is on point, and I wanted to make basically the same changes + adding a gif/video instead of the static image on top. I think the cookie + chat combo is particularly disturbing on mobile btw.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!

      1. 1

        You're welcome. Good luck!

  3. 2

It looks too professional. Best keep it simple as possible.

    1. 1

Thanks Steve, I really appreciate that.

  4. 2

    Looks awesome!
Very polished, very professional. I'm sure it speaks greatly to its target audience.

A few things that annoyed me were:

    • the Intercom opening immediately
    • the giant cookie disclaimer (could be much more subtle)

Both of these opening at once right when I enter the site is somewhat unpleasant.

One other thing - this could just be me, but I feel like the 3d effects are a bit much. I'd go with something much more subtle or even just plain 2d.
But again, this one's just a matter of taste I guess.

Keep up the great work! :)

    1. 1

      Hey Henrikas,

Thanks for your input! I think we're basically on the same page, minus the 3d effects which kind of like haha.

  5. 2

Really dig it, the overall feeling is polished and professional.

One thing I noticed is, the Intercom chat is open immediately, covering part of the copy. Especially annoying on mobile.

Mostly I'd like to see an example of what the resulting onboarding looks like. I would expect the "Get early access" button at the top (and bottom) of the page. But if there is a button below the title "Onboarding that looks good", I would expect it to open a video (or better yet - a live demo).

    1. 2

Awesome, we're on the same page when it comes to the chat widget lol.

Your suggestions are top notch, I'm definitely bringing this up to the team!

  6. 2

What bothers me is that there isn't an onboard example or a video, otherwise, it's pretty good

    1. 1

Thanks for your feedback! A lot of people brought up the topic of the video, so we definitely have to put something up there asap.

  7. 2

Great product, very impressive and a definite need. Here's some feedback.
The hero image doesn't work on mobile device.
Also, what is it your actually selling here, I think it might be 2 things:

    1. Development time - selling time back to the developer if they were considering building their own onboarding components.
    2. Engagement of users - you probably could get stats on this, but onboarding is very important for users realising the full value of any application they use.
Also, does it work on mobile browser?
    1. 1

Hey, thanks a lot for the feedback! Yes, it works on a mobile browser, as well as desktop apps and mobile apps built with web technologies. (e.g. electron, ionic, cordova, etc.)

You are spot on, on both points. The development and maintenance time is the number one value, and of course improving engagement, reducing churn, and all the benefits that user onboarding brings.

      1. 2

Great, could give you something to iterate the content!

  8. 2

Looks super good to me! Real clean and all. The product is quickly understood. I always like a video or more "real" example to see how to product really looks like but its absolutely not an emergency to have one in your case.

We are thinking about using Intro.js at my company but I'll definitely have Boardme in mind next time the topic comes up. I subscribed to the early access list!

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback Jules! Yeh, I think it would make a lot of sense to add a video or a gif where the current screenshot is.

Awesome, thanks for subscribing, and don't hesitate to reach out to me personally if you have any onboarding related questions, or anything you'd like to discuss.

      My email is [email protected]

      1. 1

Hey Andrei, I've shared the tool with my boss today and he'd really like to try it. Just send you an email with him in cc.

        1. 1

Oh snap, I wish you'd told me that's your boss, I would have been much more professional about my outreach haha.

Thanks for hooking us up though! I really appreciate it, and love the product you guys are working on!

  9. 2

Seems pretty normal to me, nothing screaming out.
Personally I think screenshots deserve more attention, not sure why I can't zoom in..

    1. 1

Hey thanks, Ctrl+Scroll should do the trick (I think)!

Isn't there anything else that seems a bit iffy?

      1. 2

On mobile, Android, the usual pinch with works here, somehow doesn't work on you page :shurg:

As I said, nothing screams out, the chat and cookie thing seemed excessive in size but aren't uncommon honestly.
And if you look I do roast plenty of pages..

        1. 1

Thanks a lot for taking the time to check it out and offer your thoughts, and let me know how I can return the favor!

I'll look into the pinch thing to see what's the deal with it.

  10. 2

Biggest thing for me is what makes you different than the other 10+ apps that do the same thing?

I have the same issue with my SaaS app so would love to hear how you plan on solving the issue :)

    1. 1

      Thanks for the input Volkan!

Sure, well, that's less along the line of the landing page, and more along the line of our business model and strategy in dealing with competition.

boardme is competing in a space where there are very few similar products on the market that the average Joe has access to with a credit card. There are a couple big names that are focused on B2B, and which are light years outside of a small startup's budget. Most of them you can't even test without a guided demo, and a sales guy breathing down your neck.

We are working on making this service affordable for everyday product people like ourselves, and making it a really good deal to use for large scale businesses as well. I would say Trello does that very well, even though there are a million project management tools on the market.

      Some additional differences:

      • We're working on making it usable for the non-technical person, with a simple copy and paste (think google analytics). You would assume this is the case with other similar products, but surprisingly enough it's not.
      • We're set to create the best editor and remove the limits when it comes to creativity as much as possible. Everything is click and edit or drag and drop.
      • Batteries included. We're offering a set of pre-made awesome themes that can be applied with a click. We've got a multiple award winning UI designer on the team, so chances are you'll be able to find a theme you love straight out the box.
      • Support for desktop applications. (competing apps don't offer this because their editor is a browser extension)
      • Support for mobile applications, e.g. Cordova, Ionic, etc.. (competing apps don't offer this because their editor is a browser extension)
      • We are the only app in this space focusing on accessibility (better onboarding for all users, regardless of their ability).

I'll stop here because this got super long and salesy haha, but let me just squeeze in one last thing, that we're really focusing on making this product a joy to use, and it is 100% aligned with both our professional interests and our passion. At it's essence we're building a great UX wrapped in a beautiful UI, and that excites us endlessly!

      1. 1

Points 1,2,3 seem already solved in the market. Maybe i'm wrong :)

        4 and 5 seem interesting.

How have customer interviews been going?

        1. 1

Yep, like I said you would assume point 1 is solved, but it's not. Neither is 2 or 3, but this depends on your expectations. I would say there is a big difference between, let's say, how Wix solved the problem of a site builder, vs how the competition did (in the context of removing barriers of creativity).

The interviews we had so far went okay, people seem to understand the value, but we barely had a handful. We are in the process of picking up speed on that front and having at least 3 a week.

  11. 1

Might be cool to have an example page of your product in action.

Btw, the privacy policy on the contact page does not work. Reference: https://www.boardme.app/contact

    1. 2

Yeh, example video of some sort is pretty much the priority now as far as I can gather from the feedback.

Thanks for reporting the privacy policy issue, but I cannot seem to reproduce it. Can you tell me the environment you tested it in?

      1. 2

Regarding the privacy policy button, I have tried it on Safari and Chrome. So when you open the contact page (https://www.boardme.app/contact), fill in contact info (optional) and then click on the "Privacy Policy" button under the send button.

The privacy policy button is clickable but does not do anything.

        1. 2

Hey thanks a lot! I found the faulty button, honestly I forgot that's even there, I was looking for the problem with the one in the footer.

We'll release a fix shortly, thanks again for taking the time to report!

  12. 1

Your intercom chat thing at the bottom right hides all of your social media icons on desktop

Thanks for the heads up Shayan!
