What Can You Build with 20k USD?

Hi community,

It is Seha and I have growth - sales experience and background.

I have 0 coding skills and want to create passive income.

I have many business ideas but most of them are not possible to do with 1 person and without coding skills.

What kind of business ideas I should focus on to use my time and resources efficiently?

20k USD is not much money for some custom software, but you can build an MVP that represents your idea for that money. It's going to be a good start. You need a developer who can help you with the MVP software.

Since your expertise is in sales, you can even reduce the risk of losing your money by finding the first clients of your MVP (even before you start investing your money). Once you have some of them, you can build an MVP and get some revenue from the start.

Another approach would be to partner up with someone and find a tech co-founder.

Also, you can learn about no-code tools and build an MVP by yourself. It's time-consuming though, since you need to invest your time in building an MVP rather than money.

But in any case, you should start with finding the clients first. Since you are with a sales background, it should be hard for you :)

Yup! I think I will build the MVP with this 20k and see if the project is worth pursuing!

Team up with someone who has a decent product but little marketing skill and you handle growth and share the revenues

I think i can add nothing more to others comments than synthetisation : find clients first with a landing page of your best idea, partner with a developper who have launched successfull products before or have or have great skills and try to make beautiful things together. Hope we helped you :)

Hey I’m a developer. Drop me and message and we can discuss things. In the case you have good marketing skills, I can take over tech stuff.

I just recently started building and my first landing page was published a week ago. Sadly, I’ve got no clue if I’m doing it right.

Getting to know this side of a business is
Priceless for me and I’m sure we can create something cool together.

Your domain redirects to a forsale site

hey thanks for the heads up. it should be fixed not

Hi Danniz, your link for feedbug doesn't work. Have you another one or Twitter ? Maybe you can drop your handle on your IH profile, it bring a lot of visits.

      1. 1

Hey, thanks for the heads up. Had to add SSL cer.
        Should be good soon.
@indie_danny on Twitter. I'm trying to build in public so you welcome to follow :)

It might sound funny but I don't know how to drop a DM on IH! :/

  5. 2

We could use the growth help (not the cash) with https://mailmentor.io if you are interested. Shoot me a DM.

With $20K you can do a lot. Micro SaaS Ideas can be a good starting point.

As other suggest, one option would be to learn a little bit of NoCode and build products.

Other alternatives are - starting writing a Newsletter around what you are good at, may be sales/marketing. Newsletters are growing exponentially fast at the moment and you could use some money to promote the Newsletter in other Newsletters and start building subscribers.

$20K is a decent money to build some business.

Loved this. I might subscribe to the paid version after a while!

  7. 2

I would recommend learning no-code so you can build on your own!

If you are good at growth and marketing, I'd look at spending time building a community around a newsletter or even an active following on social.

There are several ways to monetize a community. It might not be immediate, but an active community that follows you and your recommendations is a big advantage.

You might be able to get an MVP built by hiring developers from sites like Upwork or Freelancer.

However, without any coding knowledge, you won't know if what they are delivering is high quality or not.

If you want to start a tech business, especially with little money, you should probably learn to code.

I have a sales background and I have started several conventional-type businesses. I had a mountain of app ideas though, but I didn't want to have to rely on hiring other people to build them for me.

So, I taught myself to build software. I'm not going to lie, it took years.

    It is worth it though.

Now, I have a mountain of app ideas, and I can build them all myself.

And if I want to hire other developers to contribute to my projects, I know if the code they write is good or not.

The bottom line is if you want to build software, learn how to build software.

Or, you can just buy existing online businesses.

      flippa
      empireflippers
      bizbuysell
      etc

You can do a lot with no-code tools. I think it is a mistake to set out to spend $20k to build a project.

You should build something simple and on the cheap that solves a single problem then spend some of that money on marketing it. Test it for awhile and either scale or start again with something new.

Literally anything - with the right partners. And maybe even without, depending.

Have you worked on a WordPress platform at all? Not as a developer but as someone adding content to a site or launching a site with a preset theme installed? I ask because there's really a lot you can do with $20k if you aren't spending lots of bucks to get basic things like landing pages and registration pages and so on launched. Also, with a little bit of developer help (at a manageable cost), you can build robust applications on WordPress that are pretty much no-code or low-code once you're up and running. I'm not pushing this, but just as an example, PeakZebra (my startup) builds sites with application features at a fixed monthly cost, which varies a little, but right this moment it's possible to buy a three-month block for $3375. (Which is ridiculous... ;-) Best of luck with your journey!

create a course on sales and growth for developers. Collect emails of interested developers. Do user interviews to understand where they need help. Design a course to cater to them. Give some discount to intitial users and launch to wider audience after incorporating their feedback. ...Profit...

Hey Seha, with the rise of no-code tools you can quickly build MVPs and test things without the knowledge of coding.
You can quickly create a landing page using Caard, Softr, or Typedream and start gathering interest.
Once you validate the idea with the initial audience you can quickly build a scrappy or MVP version of it using tools like Bubble, web flow, or Softr.
As these tools have a bit learning curve (Bubble, Webflow), you can hire an agency to get it built. 20K is a good amount to get built any sort of complex application using no-code.
    Hope this helps!

Amazing. Thank you!! Any specific industry you think?

      1. 2

This method is applicable to most Industries.
I suggest validating the idea first before using the 20K for development

        1. 1

I appreciate your responses! What would be the FASTEST way to validate my idea you think?

  15. 1

To be honest, I have a business that I can start for far less than $20K.

But, when in doubt, you can partner up with a developer. You can validate products before jumping in. That way, you can narrow in the products that you can grow.

It is a great way to find an asset that you can work on.

    1. 1

What kind of business you have atm?

      1. 1

I am starting 3 ATM but 2 of them are larger-scale.

        My primary IMMEDIATE-TERM business:

        • I generate converted paid users from Linkedin for B2B SaaS owners (usually those that serve non-technical professionals). This is the one I started to have funds driving into my account quickly. It is a service business and I do not plan to scale this business as it is reliant on a structured channel (Linkedin). However, there is a lot of interest behind it from B2B SaaS owners so I will keep building it.

        My 2 SHORT-TERM businesses:

        • One is a lean service-based operation where we create high-converting visual assets for B2B SaaS companies and eCommerce companies. This is a MVP. Right now, I can start it with freelancers in a 3-layer service delivery process. The total cost of startup is $150.

        • The other one is a productized growth service where I use a framework to generate the requested KPI's for tech scaleups. I am starting that one for $350.

You need to think lean and agile. Then, reiterate on that data so you can grow faster. Never forget Quibi.
