Hiring junior developers is an investment that takes a long time to pay returns. If your startup's runway isn't measured in years, you should not be making that investment yet.

I totally agree with @Primer about building in public. But this goes for using social media too as a way to push your brand.

I have never really bothered with social media, but in the past 10 days really gave twitter a big go to push my new Venture Cards startup and to figure out what i was missing and if i should bother longer term.

F%&king hell, my brain is frazzled after 10 days of twitter and feel totally ADDICTED. And why? All so i can show off my “back story” in the hope that anyone gives a shit. They don’t.

Today i am coming off twitter (until i can afford a social media manager who enjoys this stuff). People will see my about-us page and hopefully that is enough to express what me and the idea are about. If you need me to tweet about it before you will take interest, then move along, nothing here for you!

And yes, i have a growth plan that involved good old fashioned reaching out to my target, setting up phone/zoom calls and having a face to face chat about what i offer.

Some of y'all really need to get out there and enjoy life more and stop stressing so much over starting/growing a startup.

Travel the country/world, go to clubs, go to concerts, go to festivals, nurture your hobbies, experiment with crazy career paths, meet girls, get wild, and God forbid drink and party and do drugs a little while you're young.

This startup thing will always be there. Until you're old. It will always be there.

Your energy, your youth, your zest for life, your current social circle will not.

I swear to God, you will never regret not working more when you're at your death bed.

You will probably regret not spending more time with your friends and family, seeing more of the world, living life to the fullest while you still have your health and vitality, not going after that crazy dream of yours (rock star, movie star, model, skateboarder, whatever!) -- things of that nature.

Devs don't hate marketing

They actually don't mind marketing, may actually like it when it is good and understands them (as good marketing should I guess).
What they do hate is advertising and sales, especially when it is pushy.

Most software becomes worse over time. As new features get added it becomes more bloated and tries to do too much. Instead of being the best tool for a certain job it becomes a mediocre tool for some jobs and a decent tool for others.

To add on to what @wagslane said: most people have no idea how to do marketing.

People talk about it in a very abstract way like "hey remember to market your product," but it seems like few actually know how.

Ideas are the easiest part of building a startup. If you can't come up with an idea you are either trying to be too unique or you literally don't do enough in your life to have problems you want solved.

As a wanna-preneur, I am NEVER short of ideas. Maybe I have a lot of problems in my life, but ideas come in much faster than I can build even one, let alone all of them. I'm not saying any of them are the next Google, Uber, Facebook, Apple, etc, but they all have the potential to replace my household income and support my family...if only I could just slow my brain down long enough to focus on one and finish it.

Ship many products in many niches is a profound waste of time.

Save ourself by finding a true, deep purpose before trying to save others.

Ended to this by learning the real question at the end if the day is: « am I ready to market this thing day and night for 2 years after shipping it in these two weeks? » it’s the game of sales (of course, business 🤦‍♂️)

Modern day "marketing" is just a shouting contest. Fact.

JavaScript isn't the boogeyman. Its actually fun to write despite some of the issues. Who wouldn't want to reduce context switching while developing their product?

Social media is not indispensable to have a succesful digital product.

At least where I live (developing country in the Caribbean). People use FB, IG, etc. a lot for simple everyday products but when it comes to enterprise software, nothing screams more "amateurish" or "unprofessional" than an instagram page as your official website and lots of ads on any of those platforms.
