What could help this page convert?
by
James Esch Duran
https://www.runlumo.com/
Personally, the screen changing to green highlight every few seconds is very distracting and irritating for me, I highly recommend you remove it immediately.
Most importantly I can't really read the text without getting irritated with the blinking background.
You need a clearer value proposition for your headline, try to run some AB testing to see what gives you a better conversion rate.
Did your user just bounce without scrolling further? What do they do on your site did they try reading what you have to offer? You can use Heatmap and Session Recordings to find out if they're actually interested or they just mindless browsing through and left.
I run www.howuku.com a truly all-in-one conversion tool with AB testing, Heatmap, Feedback, and Form Analytics, which would definitely help in your case.
If you're interested just let me know, I can hook you up with a one-month free trial. Good luck! :)
@donaldng thanks for your feedback on the green. I went ahead and decreased the intensity to make it less attention-grabbing and switched to a high contrast color (the app lets you choose color and intensity). Does that help?
Good point on the value proposition: what do you think about cloning the page and using different headlines?
You may have been able to guess but no I do not have heatmap and session recordings on the website. Howuku looks awesome, how can I get in touch about a trial? Thanks again :)
I thought it was pretty good.
Thanks rj :)
The main value on the page is not clear. These are the main reasons I believe:
Hey, thanks for the feedback! Decreased the section spaces which makes content below a little more obvious - thanks :)
What do you think about the new background look? It should be less distracting and more readable.
It's now much better. But still personally prefer a more minimal background, maybe because this one feels like a ready-to-use template or something.
I understand you're keeping the background because of the purpose of your website. But maybe it's best to put in in a link and reference to it. Or even a better idea, put a desktop mock photo (or mobile mock) and show the screen colors and everything inside that.
It doesn't really explain how it works, what is the product? unless I missed something. Maybe you could delay the pulsating background until the user reaches the meditation section, because it's really distracting and it doesn't allow you to focus on reading what's on the page.
The product is a native desktop app that pulses the color of your screen when out of view. When in view, you can choose your color and visual intensity, as well as practice mindfulness techniques with the light
I would change the second title "SCREEN SOFTWARE FOR YOUR MENTAL STATE" to something that describes the product. For me the "Simply inhale as your screen gets more green..." is too far below, I must dig to understand what the green does. Nevertheless, I think this is a great idea!
Great point and thanks for the enthusiasm! I love the idea of working the instructions into the hero, but it also has to deliver the value prop. If you leave your email you'll be the first to get it :)
The background is too bright for me. I have trouble with intense colors and changing contrast like that. I'd reduce that and make a "See how it works" video that people could click on instead. I literally have to squint in order to read the page. It might be similar to how dark mode causes as many accessibility issues as it supposedly solves[1] -- what works for some people won't work for others, and if people can't view the landing page comfortably as their first impression, they probably won't bother to learn more. Even if that person wouldn't use the product, if they leave before they find out what it is, they won't be able to tell their friends about it.
An alternative to a video could be a "click here to try it" which would then add the effect to the page.

looks like you prioritize design aka "brand" over messaging.
Whereas, the messaging has 2x impact on conversion than design...
Not only that,
The message lacks contrast with the background.
Lacks clarity and without a Value proposition like others have said.

Hey everyone, thank you so much for your feedback! So impressed by the community here and hope to pass it on soon. Went ahead and made some quick changes (whiter image and low-intensity yellow pulse to improve legibility and reduce negative experiences).
Working on getting back to your individual points. Two common threads that I hope to help address:
Why the light: The light-pulse 1) draws your attention to your screen, 2) can be used for stress reduction techniques like deep breathing or mindfulness meditation, and 3) pulses while you use Indie Hackers or work on your computer (native software).
Value prop: something along the lines of, "you spend all day trying your best despite your stress to sit down and use your computer screen. Lumo makes it easier to work and manage stress."
Don't like the light: in the app, you can set the intensity of the pulse and pick your color according to your specific needs. We can see from user testing those preferences vary. Additionally, your brain becomes better at perceiving the light pulse over time. This means that you can use lower and lower intensities to improve legibility, while continuing to use the product for stress reduction.
This is super helpful, thanks!
Ok, that's better on my eyes. I still think you should implement some of those other suggestions like the better headline on the above fold area. "Be your best online" could mean anything. And I think some sort of like screenshots would be nice.
On top of what was mentioned earlier, I would add some images and visuals.
Make sure that the text is easy to read when adding a new background.
Also, some kind of explanation on how the service works would be nice as well.
Ok, thanks! So maybe some product visuals and a clear product description. I made some changes to the background, hopefully easier to read!
Yeah! Also, use Hotjar or similar to see how people interact with your website.
I hope this can help you:
• Replace the background with a normal color because it is distracting and the user cant focus on reading especially that the color font is black so it's impossible to read
• "Be your best online" This could mean anything, so you should change to give an idea about the product
• Add a clear description of the product and some screenshots .. and if you can add a short demo video then it's even better.
• Tell the visitors exactly why they need your product ASAP, if you just mention what the software can do to them, this won't make them want it because they don't know why ... but tell them why they need to focus and what will happen if they don't, this will make them want the product to avoid these problems. You said "we all get distracted from time to time", true, but then what? what's gonna happen if you get distracted? if you answer this questions, they will want the product.
• Minimize the number of CTAs, you have "Sign up", "Get access", "Get demo", "Join list" and that's a lot, you should have the same CTA everywhere or maximum 2, Get access on top and get demo on the bottom in case they still have questions and they scrolled all the way down so a demo can be great... also remove contact support on the top, you don't want them distracted from the main goal of getting the product, just put it in the bottom.
• You have 4 fields to get the user email with different CTAs, don't put more than two and definitely don't put them in the same place, you have one in the footer and one just on top with different CTAs, this is confusing, you should remove the left one in the footer and replace it with a short description of the product to remind the people who scroll about it.
• Try to minimize the number of links in your footer and replace the social media with icons because people scan things but they don't want to read everything, an icon can be great.
I don't exactly see the problem with the footer. Anyway, the blinking background is the biggest problem. I have seen successful websites with more links in the footer and mine aren't generating revenue yet but if you could take a look at https://twayobiz.com, and https://sewellstephens.com if you have time.
Ok, thanks. I made some changes to the background. For twayobiz, I like the flow of what it is, the benefits, and then product features. One thing for the hero headline and subheadline, you have customizeable twice so maybe add something that tells how it's customizeable or how customizing is solving problems. For sewellstephens.com, maybe you can choose a hero image that's a little more descriptive or engaging.
Hey James. Your site is a great start. I think making it really obvious what the app (or mobile app?) does and how it works would be helpful for someone coming to this site without any background or context. Added more thoughts here -

Hey, thanks! So making what it is and does really obvious. Sounds like maybe some product screenshots with features...
Screenshots of ur product and a designer to actually take a look at the page and give their feed (paid or other)
also it burned my eyes after the page loaded - so there's that :V
Working on screenshots now, thanks! I also decreased the visual intensity.

Thanks for the feedback Shane, good ol' Monseratt! Got it, yeah I reduced the intensity, should make sure that doesn't happen (people vary on a 1x-6x scale of their preferred intensity). Let me know, sorry you had a poor experience.
