Hello Indie Hackers!
I'm a seasoned graphic designer and artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. With a solid background at a Fortune 500 company, I've honed my skills in collaborative team environments and high-volume workflows.
I am exploring the possibility of establishing my own design agency. I aim to leverage my knowledge and building a subscription-based model. That being said, I'm eager to gain insights from business owners like yourself.
I am interested in understanding any gaps or unmet needs in the current market. Are there aspects lacking in the services offered by existing agencies? Do you feel content creation is sufficient, or is there room for improvement in areas? Are you fully satisfied with the quality of designs produced, or do you envision something different?
Your valuable comments and insights would be greatly appreciated.
In my opinion, the positioning of a subscription-based agency is quite similar to a normal one. As a client what I want is someone I trust to be competent in my field and that will understand me to create a website that I will be proud of. For instance, if you do real estate websites/web apps and you are trying to work with let's say a restaurant, the confidence might be lower since you don't have previous experience. Not that you are not good at what you do, but you need to show the client why choosing you. There is a lot of things that can influence this choice and expertise in design AND the client's field are one of them. So choose a specific target and focus on them :) Talk to them, iterate and most importantly do it !
Go with niche. I started my design subscription agency https://www.pentaclay.com focusing on marketing, website, and product design.
I think that's wrong move, rather I'll focus more on Product Design especially SaaS.
I would say that very specific deliverables or verticals would be the way to go in the Graphic Design / Web space if you want to have a strong positioning.
We are focusing on Motion Design as it seems it's not crowded yet and are launching our own Motion Design subscription-based service.
In my experience, there's often room for improvement in the speed of delivery without comprising quality. Also, exploring niche spcaializations can set agencies apart. Wishing you success in your endeavour
