What did you do? Landing page *before* or *after* building your product? 🤝

I am keen to know how many people built a language page before building their product, as part of the validation of their idea or marketing.

And how many people built the product first.

And why?

I created my landing page while building the product. I wanted to get in the habit to share what I'm doing, that's why I wanted to get my feet wet creating a landing page early on.
And I think it's easier to find some early beta testers when you can show something to them.

Martin, did you get many people signing up to your mailing list before you had something to show?

I designed and launched LP while building the product because of the validation, marketing and mailing list.

There's no right or wrong. @olly

If you can manage to build a product and a landing page at the same time. Do it!

Otherwise, it's no harm to craft at least a simple coming soon page to grab early adopters, that's what I did for my little side project as well as a landing page.

I have built drdiary.eu landing page only recently, when I realized I can't measure page views on the Play Store. I thought that Facebook page might be enough, but the landing page has more conversions for now, I have to setup Twitter page as well in the future.

Does anyone have comparison of FB vs Twitter page performance?

I plan to have my landing page up, as well as some supporting content marketing pages, well in advance of launching my MVP. My hope is that 1) it'll give google and others time to index things (not that that really takes that long) but mostly 2) I want potential clients finding my solution ASAP. That way I can simultaneously validate the need while building an email list, so that hopefully on launch day I can send an email blast to 10, 20, 100 interested leads announcing the launch.

If you wait until after the launch to start marketing, you're already behind.

In my case it was afterwards. The project (support and rider tracking at large bike events) was done mostly as part of volunteering, but then so many people kept saying it should be commercial that it wasn't until the shift that we did an info page.
