This is the first project I'm building in public. So pardon me if I'm breaking any norms.
I'm starting a side project, code name "Learn Together" (Looking for a better name).
The focus of this project is to help people find an accountability partner.
The basic idea is to provide a platform where person A can post what they are planning on learning & person B can join them.
A sample post would look like this.
Looking for a Flutter buddy (beginner/intermediate/advanced)
I'm currently in between beginner and intermediate level with Flutter. I have experience with other languages/frameworks too but I want to specialize in Flutter long term.
I'm currently developing my first original Flutter application - a todo app that will have Firebase syncing functionality, and a desktop version also made in Flutter. The Mobile version will come first.
I'm 31/M/Irish.
I would like to find someone to discuss Flutter stuff with, and perhaps collaborate with on a project, or we can work on our own separate projects - I'm open to anything.
I'm happy to meet people of any level in Flutter - just as long as you're interested in it and that you see yourself using it in the long term.
And other people can respond to that.
What do you think?
How about edupals / edumates for a name
Thanks, pablovincy.
I like the sound of 'edumates'.
.com and .co are already gone though..you may have to go with something else or use .io or net 🤭
Yeah! I checked. :/
I don't get it. Like why these domains are registered but not being used!!?
People register domains and keep them hoping for someone to make a lucrative offer.
I think the ambition is noble. I think it has a discovery problem as a website. If I want to learn Python, for example, I'm not going to know your site exists. I may also not want to wait around for a few days whilst someone decides they're at the same stage as me and replies, I'll probably just get on and start figuring stuff out.
Now if it could be a Chrome extension that recognises IDEs, tools, subjects, courses, whatever it is - that would automatically search for a similar level partner in the background and offer to pair you up. I think that's a more effective dynamic - not least because you've had to do nothing other than key in your information, interests and abilities.
Names? Something that factors-in "buddy-up" or "my level".
Good luck!
Hi Jaymie.
I've not thought about the discovery part and yes the waiting part-time it takes someone to reach out could be tiresome. I need to rethink this part. And I'll explore other methods/models of connecting people.
I like the sound of 'buddy-up'.
How does 'co-commit' sound like? (like two people are committing to one goal...)
Thanks.
I really like Co-Commit! Pairity was another I thought of 🙂
Kinda seems similar to this website in a way...
Thank you for your response.
I've clearly failed to communicate my idea in the post. Because what I'm envisioning is different than this site.
Let me try to explain it again.
So I've signup into several discord servers and I took the above sample post from a flutter discord.
I've noticed this similar type of post on other discord and slack group. What happens is that with time it gets buried with new messages.
So I'm thinking of a dedicated place for adding this type of post. where other people learning the same thing might pair-up with the poster.
So if someone learning Spanish they can post about their plan and maybe some other person might pair-up with them.
Whenever I'm learning something new I personally find it easier if I'm learning with someone rather than learning in a silo.
