What do you think about online friendships?

Would you join an email service that sends you an opportunity to make a new online friend, daily, based on common interests? If not, what would deter from that? Two initial points: 1. It would be opt-in only, so it would only introduce you if you both opted-in to e-meet each other. 2. I'm thinking it would share your preferred social network links, not your emails.

By the way let me know if you'd like to join the waitlist 🤙🏼

I'm not sure I would join, because it seems like I'm already in chat rooms and Zoom calls all day recently, but maybe that's just the sheltering orders. I also have so many old friends I need to get back in touch with and current friends I don't talk to often enough… it would feel weird continuing to neglect those, but then putting time into an online service to make new friends.

That said, it's really hard for anyone to predict what they will and won't do! So even if you ask a bunch of people, "Would you use X?" you might get lots of no's from people who would actually use it and lots of yesses from people who actually wouldn't. There's a great book called The Mom Test that might be helpful here. If you search for it on IH, there are lots of useful discussions: https://www.indiehackers.com/search?q=the mom test

Beautiful points thank you! I read another post about that book and "scratching your own itch." I am scratching my own itch! I've downloaded a few apps trying to make online friends, including dating apps but also friend-specific apps, but they turn weird, so here I'm hoping to connect peers instead of randos.
