Re: higher quality milestone posts: I think being forced to create 3 posts to verify my product page probably made me create lower quality posts. Also, at the time of writing them I didn't know they were going to be displayed to others. Maybe you just need some strong examples there and a minimum word count?
Re: in-comment bios and "expert's only", I do think IH needs some obvious form of credentials for users. There are pros and cons but the indie hacker / startup world has soooo much noise that there should be some way to filter based on expertise. Maybe answering questions in a specific area of expertise could level you up somehow, for marketing / scaling / product dev etc. Just throwing out ideas. Thanks Courtland!
Good suggestions re: product pages. In the last couple weeks I've actually changed both those things! You now only need to post one update when you make your page, and it comes with 5 or 6 example updates to give you an idea of what to post.
Totally agree re:credentials.

Think these ideas are great however I personally think the search UI is good as is.

Unfortunately will probably never be a priority. Amount of time it would take to make is insane + it would at least double the development time of every subsequent feature + the benefit it would provide over the current web experience is minimal compared to spending that time building the other features on the list above.
If you do make one, please never go the lengths Reddit does to nag me to install it.
I'm not technical but I can imagine that... However I think a mobile app would really boost engagement. What percentage of IH users are from mobile?
About a third of visitors come from mobile, but their engagement isn't any less than that of desktop visitors. What do you find troubling about the mobile experience?
Their engagement isn’t any less because those mobile users are your power users! They love IH so much that they check it even from mobile 😉
If you could use Twitter (or any other social/community) only from your mobile browser, would you use it as often as you do?
For me the answer is no. I saw the difference with Reddit. Since when I installed the Reddit app on my phone I use it a lot more.
There's nothing wrong in the current mobile experience, I just think an app would make a lot of sense 😀

I don't know if it's possible to answer that question...
I do use the Twitter app on my phone, for example. But AFAIK only because it's quicker to open (1 click vs ~3).
I imagine the IH app would be the same, except I hate writing on mobile and most of my IH interactions require some writing (more than Twitter etc), so I'd switch to desktop anyway.
I feel that an app generally provide a better user experience than mobile browser. Common actions are just easier to do.
For example, if you have unread notifications, you click on a big, accessible button at the bottom of the screen instead of a small red number next to your profile image.

It's a huge misalignment of incentives and TBH this forum is filled with people here for the marketing channel, rather than the opportunity to learn and share.

Lack of manpower, mostly developers. It's just a lot. This list doesn't include dozens/hundreds of other fixes, improvements, and efforts that need to happen that don't quite qualify as features.
For example, I'm currently focused on finishing up the new milestones leaderboard. It's "finished" from a visual standpoint, sure, but there's all the plumbing needed to make something like this actually good. For example, automatically emailing product page owners regularly to prompt them to post milestones, notification settings to manage those emails, nudging the influencers I know to begin posting, a mailing list explicitly for sending out the top milestone posts, and many other things.
Every feature has these kinds of hidden efforts that are mostly invisible, so it looks like no progress is being made. But without them, the features only hit 10% of their potential.

Yeah that makes sense, there's always a whole load of hidden work going on beneath the surface, as it were.
You mentioned previously a few times that you sometimes struggle with reaching out and asking for help/hiring.
Speaking from my own mistakes in the past, it might be worth talking to a personal mentor/coach about whether you're putting obstacles in your own way regarding 'lack of manpower'...
Outside of simple budget problems, any times I've had that problem in the past, I turned out to be the root cause. Either I was being a control freak, had fallen into the trap of prioritising 'urgent' (fix that bug) over 'important' (hire and train someone to fix all bugs) , or something else was going on that I didn't realise was affecting me (I was a terrible micromanager for my first few hires).
Obviously I've no idea if any of the above applies to you, but if it does, it's better to catch it sooner rather than later :)
Oh I'm definitely in my own way. I have the budget to hire one more developer but haven't prioritized doing that as highly as I should have.
Prioritizing the right things to work on is an issue, too. I've actively been working on that one this year, and made a ton of improvement. Still lots of room to go there.
