What do you think of .so?

I've seen the .so domain become more and more popular, especially among tech companies such as notion.so. Is this a good domain if .com isn't available? In the project I'm working on, .com, .co and .app aren't available, but .so is. Should I use .so or is their a different one I should check?

.so is going to be the next .io for "general tech" startups

.ai is already the gold standard for artificial intelligence
    .gg for gaming and esports
    .vc for venture capitalists
.id for identification & privacy companies
    .ag for agriculture
    .fm for podcasts & streaming

    etc.

I was really interested in an .so domain but decided to pass on a purchase after reading that Notion users had issues in their companies accessing the service due to company-wide TLD blacklisting.

You can read more about this here https://www.reddit.com/r/Notion/comments/f6x9mk/why_the_so_domain/ and

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into this and reconsider what TLD I choose.

I didn't realize .so was a tld! Shows you how behind the times I am.

I looked up .app and according to icann it won't expire until May 2021.

I thought of .io, but that is taken as well.

You sure the .app isn't going to be available soon? Just hit the one year anniversary, and lots have been expiring or will expire soon.

Sorry. I'm new to this whole domain name thing. Do domains expire?

Ya, you need to pay a renewal each year. Check out dofo.com, it'll allow you to easily check whois info for a domain - if it's in "redemption period" or "pending delete" then it'll likely be dropped and become available.

If you want to dm me, I'd be happy to help. I've done a ton of research around the space while acquiring hero.app for our startup.
