What do you use to measure the effects of your website changes on your analytics?

I've manually recorded the dates of website changes (redesigns, new landing pages, etc) in a spreadsheet, then looked at the results of Google Analytics before and after. Is there an easier way?

For a simple solution, you can use the Annotations feature in Google Analytics. It lets you add comments directly in Google Analytics for major events/changes you made. More info here: https://www.lovesdata.com/blog/google-analytics-annotations

Thanks! Someone on Reddit mentioned these as well, so I've been trying them out. These may get the job done.

If you’re getting a good amount of traffic you can run AB tests with Google Optimize, Optimizely, and other similar services. I’ve had some luck doing that, but it’s also a slow process. Generally I just do exactly what you describe and only roll back if there is a noticeable dip.

Thanks, I've been told this by others too. I'll probably take advantage of it, but it'd be great if there was a way to track external events (marketing and such, or site updates - things other than content changes) in the same place.
