What do you want in a video conferencing app?

Hi everyone, hope you are doing well.

I would like your opinion on something:

  1. What are the shortcomings of the current video conferencing app you use?
  2. What features would you like it to have added?
  3. If you were to make such a product, what benefits do you possibly have if you are targeting only a country/region-specific population?
  4. Do you think there is a niche that hasn't been yet addressed or been addressed but not properly executed?

Thanks for your insight.

Allow multiple people to share their screens at once... (kind of like Kast, but not buggy). It would make it more interesting for longer, less structured meetings. I'd like to be able to hang out with my remote co-workers in a chat-room/web conference without being the center of attention if I share my screen. It would also be cool to kind of look around at what other people are up to.

we recently switched to whereby (https://whereby.com/) at work and there you can share multiple screens at once

I guess yeah, less hassle to get started, unlike Zoom where there are too many hoops to jump through.

omg. the app is bloated as fuck.

Regarding point 3. A video conferencing app where host can sell tickets for their conferences. Like a hybrid of peatix and zoom. It may come in handy to those hosting paid online courses (yoga, dance, cooking etc) on zoom during this lockdown.

@jonny91 I Get it. But what would you prefer when there is a trade-off between security/privacy vs ease of use?

browsers are both more secure and easier to use. with uberconference I could get started right away tojoin a conference.

Just saw it. Looks amazing. But I wanted to know if you feel the current popular video conferencing apps are perfect or there is some space for improvement?

Whereby is perfect. The quality is amazing, my guests don't need to sign up and it works flawlessly.

    1. I tried webex recently for an important grant review panel. They had no way of testing before the assigned slot. This meant my microphone did not work and I didn't know it until I had to answer a question

    2. Support for presentations is awful. If the presentation includes a video, or transitions, they are just not visible (or at VERY low fps) on other's computers.

    3. Chat should be stored and accessible. Had many sessions in which links and important information was shared in the chat, just to find out it got lost right after the last person signed-off.

    4. Encryption. I won't use any platform that does not include end-to-end encryption.

    5. Overlay of the room on top of the shared screen. It is awful talking to your own slides without knowing if there is anyone on the other side, if the connection froze, etc.

    6. Being able to participate without installing software. I understand if some features require software (for example, better support for screens sharing), but if I am just joining a presentation, should be web-based only (and there's no excuse for this since webRTC exists).

@bunnyrockz indeed I have been doing this research for this only.

the problem in zoom and other apps is, anyone, can join the chat if he has chat ID and password, etc.
You can add a feature to "Only verified Users can join this chat" or something like that.
and users have to verify his identity by a govt id with face etc.
This feature is meant for lectures, govt employees talk, etc, so their chat will be more secure.
An intruder will not take a risk to come to these chats, or his ID will be exposed.

@Dedupely By screen share snippet you mean copying the code and sending everyone as text snippet or an image of code?
