Rewatched “Indie Game” this weekend by forcing my wife to watch it with me and started thinking about the other ones that really get me energized for my projects.
“Pirates of Silicon Valley” and this one, “Indie Game”, are some big ones for me. Of course there’s also Social Network, the Silicon Valley show, etc. So what media gets you hype when you aren’t actually building?
Podcasts count too. Load me up.
It's weird, that I don't have any movie or anything else that motivates me.
I just think about my future, and the possibilities that I have - that is the most realistic motivation that I can think of.
But maybe I'm just a unicorn.
Love that. The procrastination of consuming hype-content is something worth talking about. I already see that with podcasts, tutorials, etc (just start building yall) so totally get your point here.
Still interested in hearing about some good content though :)
Not related to tech but Free Solo is a great documentary. What Alex Honnold does is inspiring in its own way.
I think the expression for things like this is 'competence porn.'
For me, a fictional one is Limitless. The movie, not the TV show. The limitless feeling that the main character feels always seems so similar to the feeling I get when I'm working and in the flow.
That movie always amps me up
It's probably not what you're after but I always really liked Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Just the dedication to perfection of your craft.
I remember watching it around the time that I started taking programming seriously, and I just thought to myself "I will be neckbeard Jiro".
It's motivating but it's no Rocky 4.
