What does it take to build something? and why should you do it?

A quick introduction before start my first post here. I'm a developer, with more than 6 years of professional experience. build a few popular side projects (https://github.com/TheYahya) and tried to lunch a few ideas (https://www.linkedin.com/in/theyahya/).

As I remember from my early days even before high school, I've had dream of building something, making things and make things automated. a few years caught up in Hollywood point of view of entrepreneurship and thinking that It could be all like that, to just drink a few night and code, and sell your unicorn company the next week. So I've tried that idea a lot, and you can guess that it didn't worked!

To build something, You have to have a few skills at least. Being an engineer, Marketer, designer, maybe good at building teams or just a good presenter. You can't be all these at once. Also with the fact that each one of these skill take a few years of making a fool of yourself to know your way around them finally. So you have to work with people, convince others or maybe join other teams.

Probably most of us don't have a big inherent money or a rich uncle to invest in our ideas (or more likely us). So paying bill would be the main concern and only having your dream on the side would be the option.

If the idea's perfect, execution is good, the team didn't break half way through, the best case scenario: after working 14 hours a day and losing you sense of social life and your girlfriend. you may have a product/outcome which now is like your child that you have to keep it alive through all the things that we know could still go wrong.

And of course, you have to do all this a few times until you be able to get it right. So if lucky and start soon, at 35 you probably be able to consider a happy work/life balance and thinking about calling your mom after 4 years!

But it's fun and we all in for it! So, not having any other option, liking money, want to have freedom, love to create and probably a long list of reasons that could be our motivations.

We create and we build, and it's not just products, by creating we shape daily life of people, how they think and plan, and we design how they see the world. If you think it worth it, then it does and you have to keep up the good work until you see the results and after that.
