What does it take to run A Profitable Saas based Agency?

I.T based startups may be a dream to someone and a lot of people may already be running a successful I.T Agency that specializes in SAAS based Products. Young entrepreneurs are highly creative regarding their Concepts. However, they need massive testing and refinements before you actually start investing.

Every business has it’s pain-point. I myself started a profitable digital marketing agency. I too faced a lot of challenges during the start-up. I always thought Capital Investment and efficient team-mates were all it requires.

Believe me, there’s more than this. Here are some of the major challenges I faced.

  1. Making Clients think beyond the start-up mentality and making them realize
    what we Could deliver.
  2. Clients always ask, what we lacked. It was a challenge to find new Experts on
    Project-based Payment.
  3. Be a Specialist or cater to all the industry technology needs. Hiring Experts
on each technology is a hectic call to make.
  4. Making People Stay. Either it is the first client you acquired or the first
employee you nurtured, it is always hard to make people stay.
  5. Making the Final Call to work on any Project. It’s always hard to decide which
idea you should work on. There’s always a fear that if any tech giants acquire
your idea and launched the product faster and better.

Connecting all the dots, I finally realized that basically working on an Agency-based modality is creating all the problems. Agency may sound like a Profitable term but Operating Cost, Human Resource always prevents you from making the great leap, you always planned to make.

Thanks for sharing this Ullekh. We are actually in the process of transitioning from a website design agency (aptuitiv.com) to focusing on our software product (branchcms.com). We validated it with 300+ customers and over 18K MRR. We've mostly sold our software to direct customers and through a few partners.

We're rebranding our software to be called Aptuitiv and to run fully under the Aptuitiv brand. It's scary, and it's been something that I've been considering for quite a while now. It simply got to the point that it's hard to run two types of businesses at once. Creating solutions with software is my passion.

So we're changing from a service company that also has a software product to a software company that also does services that compliment our product.
