What does the Epic v. Apple ruling really mean for your app?

βš–οΈ Epic vs Apple verdict is in!

But what does this really mean for app publishers?

πŸ‘‰ It's not clear exactly what Apple is going to allow yet in terms of purchase flows
πŸ‘‰ Changes to purchase flow, and importantly adding more steps and data entry, can have a big impact on user acquisition
πŸ‘‰ Are you all set up to run a subscription service? Including credit card retry, support, and all the rest that comes with it?

At first glance, it seems obvious: I should replace Apple's in-app purchases with Stripe (or some other service) and reduce the fees from Apple's 30%.

How Apple decides to comply with the ruling is likely to have a big impact on how effective introducing other payment methods will be.

What are you going to do?

  • Switch to another payment provider as soon as you can?
  • Stick with Apple's in-app purchases?
