After a 15? year hiatus from Team Fortress Classic (GoldSrc) level development I started to play Day of Defeat 1.3 in the last year for nostalgia's sake. Hooked up with a great group of people my age, and decided to write my own levels for it. Had to relearn everything but came up with a decent map. Also did bot waypointing as well. Fun little project.

I am toying around with some concepts. I saw that it is usually related to the current game I am playing, now being Stellaris. So naturally, the current prototype I am toying with is a space exploration game with a procedurally generated universe, systems and planets, civilizations and others.
I am not into the fighting stuff, so I want to focus on the economic aspects of the game.
In the game, you have a spaceship and you have to travel in the universe, gather resources, manufacture different things to complete tasks for different inter-galactic actors, earn money, upgrade your tools and accumulate wealth.
I want to simulate how things are in Stellaris, with multiple civilizations fighting and competing for influence, and you have to trade with them to get things done. Depending on how they are generated (centralized economy where only the government buys and sells stuff to decentralized economies where are a lot of actors that each can practice different prices, from liberalized economies where you can trade anything to regulated economies where there are restrictions on some goods, import/export taxes and permits for harvesting stuff, different civilizations with different rules (eg. stance towards under-developed planets where its population didn't reach space yet), etc.

It is a big project which I will probably abandon at some point, but it's fun to think about all the systems and try to implement some of them. Of course, I'll start small with the basic universe generation, travelling, extraction and ship upgrades and go from there.

      So "SATISFACTORY" meets "Eve Online"

Real cool concept. But a massive endeavour indeed.

Good luck! Post some screenshots when you have it.
