What GitLab’s IPO could mean for indie hackers

It’s still early days, but GitLab’s IPO seems to be going well. According to various financial news sources, the market’s valued it somewhere around the $11Bn mark.

Or to put it another way, GitLab now has a huge pile equity it can turn into cash to acquire projects and other businesses.

GitLab’s also somewhat unique in that it publishes both its acquisition playbook (ie. how it buys projects and businesses) and AND it’s long term strategy (ie. the things it wants to have/buy).

So it occurs to me that if you’re a solo developer working on a side project, perhaps on a problem space GitLab want to be in, now might be a good time to read up on their process and strategy, and start getting to know their corp dev team…
