I was listening to the IH Podcast with @thecodercoder and loved hearing how she was growing her thing.
Instagram seems to have worked quite well for her, I'm wondering if anyone else here has done well with Instagram and what have you been doing to help with growth?
Also, it would be cool to know if there are any indie hackers who have created tools to help manage Instagram growth or content?
Sounds cliche, but as long as you post things that resonate with your audience, you'll grow organically. For instance, if your business has a visual appeal, please invest in great photography. Pair that with relevant content and you'll be just fine.
I say this because this is usually what has compelled me to follow an IG account.
Thanks so much Rosie!
I know a lot of people use apps to schedule their Instagram post, although I don't use them myself. It's tough because Instagram/Facebook recently severely limited the Instagram API capabilities.
Just avoid any artificial engagement tactics, as Instagram has been really cracking down on them, and people are getting more fed up with bot comments and reporting them. Engagement pods/groups aren't worth it, in my opinion, because while they may give you more comments, all those comments are 1) low effort like "great shot!" and 2) aren't really your target audience.
Instagram growth is a grind, and like @rapidmon33 and @gmdmd mentioned, there's unfortunately really no way around putting in the hard work to grow relationships and connections there.
https://www.instagram.com/grepmed/ - we just passed 10k followers, started in April I believe. I've posted about this before but IG is a pyramid scheme and it's all about social proof. You need to generate engagement with people at/near your level of followers and climb your way up as those above your level tend to ignore you at first. It's painstaking but once you get to the ~1k level the traction is self perpetuating and you start to pick up followers much more regularly just from the fact that you have more people to upvote your content for the algorithms.
Also might helpful to join instagram "pods" to help drive your engagement, although it's hard to quantify how much that has helped.
Hi, in short, there are three things: posting, right scheduling and boosting.
Some even use bots in the beginning to receive a certain amount of comments and followers.
