What I learned from watching indie hackers posting on Reddit

There have been many posts about marketing on Reddit.
For some it worked well, for some really well.

Some fellow indie hackers experience the infamous toughness of Reddit community.

I summarised a simple framework made of 3 steps that should fit any use case.

1. Find the community

Use the search tool to find fitting subreddits where you could bring the most value to the members.

Things to look for:

• How many members there are
• How active the community is by looking at how many posts under New tab and upvotes and comments

2. Research

This step should help you to understand the culture of a given community. The better this step is performed the better results you can yield from the next step.

Things to look for:
* Are there any self-promoted submissions; how do they look like and how people react to them
* Posts where people ask questions or express frustration

3. Act

Based on your research you should see if mods allow self-promoted posts and if yes, how they look like. Simply look at what worked in the past and follow the same structure. Most often you would see that these posts bring value and might post a link either at the end of the post or in the comments.

Sometimes mods are strict about promotions. In that case, bring that question posts that you were going through and engage with people on DMs if the question resonates with your product.

And if this is not the case simply ask a question and make a post yourself. This will help you to better understand the community and engage with people.
