Promotional videos are time-consuming and challenging to make at a high quality. I had to invest in a good microphone, high-resolution screen recording software, and video editing software. I spent hours writing my script, practicing timing, and recording precisely. It took multiple days to perfect one 4 minute video. Does anyone else relate???
All of that work for honestly, not much return.
Then I had this realization:
4 minutes sounds like a short video, but it is actually WAY too long. I would get bored just watching my own videos back while editing them. Additionally, I rarely listen to the audio in videos unless I am already invested in the creator/content.
So I decided to make a promotional video that was <30 seconds and didn't have essential audio. In my opinion, it is much more entertaining and energetic, portrays value in a more concise way, and feels less sale-sy.
If you care to watch the difference...
One of the OG long videos: https://youtu.be/lTs91Ug3cSI
New video I'm planning to promote instead: https://youtu.be/3tuSakYjKO4
Have you created videos for your startup? What was your experience like? I would love to hear more perspectives or any feedback!
I like the second format a lot more, and if I can give you a little feedback based on how I watch the video, then I feel it's missing an introduction.
I don't know what the video or product is about before I'm 24 seconds into the video. I need to know this within the first 3-5 seconds.
So I would swap the ending around to be the beginning.
I have made some videos for other companies; the shorter, the better. The faster you can get to the point, the happier your viewers will be.
This is so helpful, thank you! I'm definitely going to switch this around.
Two little points of observation. When people say "Promotional" in anything
the first thing I look it is their own self promotion. Your video has had 21 views as of date
which , granted maybe new , but what can you point to that shows you know how to promote and get an audience?
Second, and please don't shoot the messenger here. You have that vocal croak ,that sounds like a frog that many USA women seem to have. Not sure why that is, because it's not found in woman from any other country on earth. Not sure where that froggy croak comes from. But could you train yourself to hide it a little as for some ears, it gets the same reaction as chalk on a chalkboard. Is it the drinking water over there? I watched old american movies and the woman didn't have it, so it seems it didn't exist in the past.
not the feedback I was expecting LOL. I created the video to promote moving forward, but am still just starting out, so not claiming to be an expert by any means (: just sharing as I learn along the way!
