Let’s go over some numbers
Externally funded (I have a technical role, and the CEO refuses to take business advice from me, having said "make your own business then")
| Money raised | 350,000€ |
| ---------------------- | -------------|
| Revenue (so far) | 0€ |
| Money spent | 290,000€ |
| People | 5 |
| Total man hours | 6000+ |
Bootstrapped (I do everything)
| Money raised | 0€ |
| ---------------------- | ---- --------- |
| Revenue (so far) | 900€ MRR |
| Money spent | 40€ /month |
| People | <1 |
| Total man hours | 56 |
Bootstrapped has a lot of potential, but I can’t market it due to my contract with the funded one, yet I still make sales. Onboarding a business student to do some advertising/PMF search/user interviews on a commission only model (100% of the first payment, either $100 for monthly customers or $1000 for yearly ones), and even if she makes no sales she can use it as a case study for her university work. (protip)
The funded one has more upside potential, and if you dream enough it could reach a $1B valuation (.000001% chance), but behind a very hazy cloud of "????????", and maybe 6 years of back and forth battles. It's probably worthless, especially now in a bear market with funding drying up.
What do you get out of this?
