This list really resonates with I want (aslo as a developer).
I would put it in the order for me:
Same for me but would swap "Help others" with "Be productive". And it can be hard to find a job that fulfills all of these points. I think working on an OSS project can help a lot (if the founders share this view obviously).
Even after seeing money on my account after an app launch, I can safely say that no feeling compares to when you read a genuine, positive review from one of your users. I know this isn't developer specific, but that is on of my greatest motivations!
"I want to be productive" <-- This I can get on board with.
I can't work on creating software if I'm constantly being distracted (either by people, meetings, calls - whatever). I read a blog post a while back about the Makers vs Manager schedule
Doing my own thing lets me do things my way (on a maker's schedule) and I'm much more productive.

I love all this, but I also struggle with whether some of these values can come later once I've mastered software development. Like is it more beneficial for me to do anything and everything to become good at software development, and then, start to tack on these moral/philosophical values?

I like the point about: "I want to be able to talk directly with the people whose problems I’m solving... I want to get hands-on experience with the processes they are dealing with." And I agree to an extent. But ultimately, I aspire for something more passive. Something that allows me to make money without having to be "hands-on" so much.
..and having ownership. I have really started to dislike the idea of pouring a great deal of time into something and not having any ownership of it afterwards.
Yes, that exact problem was one of many past and on-going experiences that prompted me to write the article. Spent so much of my time over a two year period working on something applicable to the wider business but it was mostly killed off and given to another team anyway.
Me too. On this point, I think it's a case of timing. I definitely want to build a product where I understand exactly how users use it, why they use it, and the problems they face with it. Plus, I don't really think you can build a sustainably successful product without understanding these things. So, especially at the start, it's important to be hands-on. But I agree, in the end, the goal for me is "passive income"- I don't want to be tied to my product all day.
