I was like you. I wanted to 'protect' my idea until it was perfect and ready to be shared with the world. The problem with that, as you found too, is that you get absolutely zilch feedback until you share it. Building in public is so important. Glad you're heading in the right direction now.
I think the only actual risk when you're public about your idea, is that it's easy to be misled by positive feedback from people who love your product but wouldn't use it. Mistaking positive comments and likes on a post for validation can hurt you a lot.
I learned this the hard way after working on something everyone loved but nobody wanted. Nowadays the only answer I care about is "Do you want to use this? Why/ Why not?"
Recently, I was exploring internet where I and ideas from https://techyoffice.com/how-to-print-facebook-posts/ so I got the idea to make a tool which could make the printing of Facebook posts easy. Which could pitch the Facebook posts and make it ready in a proper format for printing. Going to start work on it in the next month. Hopefully it will be successes.
Yup, it's all about the execution. It's funny how so many people fall into the trap of 'build and they will come'. In today's world, unless you already have an audience or a large marketing budget, then no one is going to find or buy your product.
