What ideas do you have about tech that are contrary to what most people think?
I'm asking because:
- I want to know where we're going in tech
- I want to talk to people with interesting ideas about tech on my podcast
- I love contrarianism
Here's one to kick things off: I think big employers will be big losers in the next few years, and individual creators and indie hackers will be big winners.
What ideas do you have?
I also shared that idea. For better or worse, I subscribe to the web3 philosophy of a decentralized internet. I don't think FB/YT are going away anytime soon, but that creators and individual contributors are going to profit more easily.
My other idea that is contrary to public opinion is that chatbot technology is hype and won't survive. I usually need to get on a phone with a customer service agent these days, and I enjoy the actual service I get from a person instead of a bot. So, even though lots of money is being invested in chatbot technology, it just doesn't feel like a service people really want. I'm sure the data and investors analytics don't agree with me, but it's my opinion.
Ah, interesting! I hope you're right about the chatbots. Especially the support chatbots that ask you: "Is your issue A, B or C?" and don't allow any other answer. I always want to reply: "None of the above, if it were anything that straightforward, I wouldn't need to contact support."
What are your thoughts on web3? Do you think it will (eventually) win out over the great aggregators?
I don't really think it will replace web2, but in my opinion, I'm not a fan of the impact "big tech" is having on both innovation, and just society in general. I'm not sure how web3 will solve the latter, but I'm always in favor of reducing the control these monopolies have on the internet.
