In 2023, my girlfriend and I were about to fly back after the trip of a lifetime.

Because of our success on the way out, we weren’t too apprehensive of the journey home, even though this time we’d be taking a ten hour flight before a shorter four hour hop to get up back to Heathrow.

But as it turns out, things didn't go as smoothly as we hoped. We were faced with the dreaded delayed flight that put our connecting flight at risk.

We incurred no major trauma but there were a series of annoying and seemingly-unnecessary events which felt like failures of operational and experience design.

I set out to design a better experience for airlines handling flight delays and missed connections on long-haul flights.
