What in the world did I do last week?

Week two in the new schedule. Last week was supposed to be fully around development. Due to life circumstances, it was very hard to get a lot done. I ended up reading a lot (of documentation) to get the code I wanted to get done (more on that in a moment).

That being said, I was able to get started on my to-do’s, though I didn’t finish them in their entirety. I definitely feel as though I needed to break them down more.

Last Sprint (code week!)

  • Incorporate subscriptions (via Stripe) and all necessary APIs for Producer. - Done! (mostly… some edge cases to handle)
  • Break down subscription tiers for Producer - Started!
  • Begin coding backend APIs for the tiers with proper authorizations - Started!
  • Add two data sources to LA - Done!

Products

  • ListenAddict - Subscribe to a person like you'd subscribe to a podcast
  • Producer - SaaS to help YouTubers + Podcasters

ListenAddict Stats

  • 21 registered users (+1)
  • 1,055 unique visitors (-48)
  • 84 Data Sources (+2)
  • 22,580 total talks (+571)
  • 11,772 total people (+219)
  • 107,143 API requests (+29,011)
  • 0 Frontend deployments (-1)
  • 1 Backend deployments (-3)

Producer Stats

  • 1 email sign up!!! (+0)
  • Reading, adding, and implementing Stripe APIs (webhooks). I hadn’t used Stripe before, so it was a fair amount of reading, and for the most part, it was fairly good. There were a few scenarios where their documentation didn’t make sense and couldn’t be tested (their CLI did not implement certain “required” triggers) and their support team couldn’t help, so I had to figure out solutions on my own. Overall, a good experience though.
  • Setting up Stripe branding.
  • Started splitting up the tiers for my system and implementing the logic for it.

Other Stats

  • 0 Indie Hacker posts (-5)

Lessons Learned

  • As mentioned last week, I need to have more concrete goals. “Incorporate subscriptions via Stripe” was a very general goal. Unfortunately, it’s hard to break down a goal like that when you don’t know what it all entails beforehand. So I think it may have been wise for me to start reading some basic documentation ahead of time, and even revisited my timeline/goals early in the week.

Next Sprint (management/marketing week!)

  • Send out email to my two Producer subscribers.
  • Add two data sources to LA
  • Watch Egghead series on Next.js + Stripe (I don’t use Next.js, but I think I could probably learn a thing or two about Stripe).
  • Watch / read 30x500 series x2
  • Implement a tweetbot for ListenAddict (yes, this isn’t code week, but I think doing automated marketing is what I need to grow it given I haven’t done any formal marketing on it).
  • Ponder the universe, or at least think about what my best use of time would be for “non-code” weeks.
