Hello fellow indie hackers,
When we started Sponsy a few months back, we wanted to build a free and easy way for creators to manage their newsletter's sponsorship deals. But soon after we started noticing that most newsletters struggle with other points - and we want to help you!
What is blocking you from finding sponsors?
Usually the answer is: The writer's strength is in writing, not in marketing.
Overall I think the biggest problem is not finding the sponsors, but all the steps after having found them. You seem to be addressing this.
But in general it is time: to check competitors, make a list of sponsors on their newsletters, find the right contact persons, set up a flow for everything after initial contact etc.
At the same time, the writer/publisher usually knows their audience and will want specific requirements from the service for ads, like design restriction, preview in newsletter layout for sponsor (missing in your service), cross-posting to website... which asks for versatile solution.
And then incorporation: How much extra time and effort is required to put the sponsored content into an existing template or fresh newsletter?
👆🏻Just some thoughts...
Thanks for your thoughts @janvaniperen!
We are releasing very soon this new feature to create your own spot templates where you can specify a bunch of criteria how your ad will look like and for the sponsor to fill up the correct information at the time of purchase. The preview in newsletter will come later on, but it is on our to do board!
As now, regarding incorporation, we actually deliver an HTML (and Markdown) snippet of the ad that you can just copy paste into your ESP, but these styles are still not very configurable yet.
I think and to your point, what we are thinking as a next step is to offer that compiled information of a sponsorships' list of competitor newsletters so that our users can approach them.
For me it's all about supply. The more advertisers there are, the more demand for a spot in my newsletter.
