What is more important, growing your personal or your project's Twitter account?

Hi Hackers,

I see a lot of indie-hackers growing their personal social media accounts, mostly on Twitter. Which makes sense, since you want to create your following for future projects. When do you consider using a separate Twitter account for your business/project?

I ran a couple of communities and side-projects in the past and had a separate account for all of them. Which I really regret now...would have had a couple of thousand followers. On the other hand, maybe people used to like to follow brands/projects more instead of individuals?

Would like to know what your strategy is and how do you manage multiple accounts most effectively if you use them.

I like to take the angle of having separate accounts, but I put off doing ones for my 'projects' until I feel enough confidence that I will stick around with it for the long term.

That sounds logical to me. I used to do the opposite and regret this now. But hey, that's part of the indie-hacker learning curve :)

Historically, I've focused on having social presence for the brand/entity vs myself.

That said, I realize a lot of creators have personal branded accounts where they talk about their different initiatives.

Agree with @rosiesherry though - if your projects are still in the early stages, and you feel comfortable in creating your own personal brand where you mention your early-stage projects, that seems like a good place to start.

Been thinking about this quite a bit lately too. While I do tend to gravitate to being behind the scenes more, I may switch that up, put my personal brand first, and see what the hell happens :)

Exactly, I have seen this also. The 'made by'-label is also a good example of amplifying your personal brand, which works well for some. I think it can go a long way and when things really take off, you can always change things or not :)
