I'm currently in the process of setting up a transactional email for users who register interest for my new SaaS, and I'm wondering how I can ensure, or at least have the best possible chance that, an avatar would be shown alongside the email within users' email clients (Gmail, Outlook etc).
I found text online indicating that Gmail doesn't read from Gravatar, so what other options might we have?
The most reliable option is setting up BIMI, which lets email clients display your logo next to emails, though it requires DMARC and sometimes a verified certificate. For Gmail, you can also link a logo to a Google account, but results aren’t always consistent, so BIMI is the best long-term approach.
There is no global recognized avatar. This is Gravatar marketing working. Many systems have their own avatars. People could have different avatars in different systems. It's their choosing.
