What is the cheapest way to start collecting emails on a landing page?

I'm looking for a free or low-cost way to start collecting emails from prospective users for "early access". I'm going to be displaying an input box and a button for submission, my only problem is how I can start collecting all the emails without needing a backend. Also wanted to find a solution that allows for free exporting of emails.

Netlify forms can be used for this but it only has 100 free submissions per month and then paid after that. Maybe Mailchimp? Formspree? If building my own backend or integrating an AWS lambda function is the way to go, I'm happy to do this.

Thank you in advance!

Here are a couple of form processing services.

    https://formsubmit.co/
    https://formspree.io/
    https://formflare.io/
    https://getform.io/

I own formflare.io - PM me if you want to talk.

For now, me and the team are collecting emails by putting them in a firebase collection. We send thank you emails manually.

You can hook up firebase in 10 minutes if you know the front end.

This helped us get over 60+ email subscriptions on the first launch of our smoke screen MVP www.weediblesapp.com

producthunt has an upcoming widget that does exactly this and its free

For people comfortable self-hosting their own newsletters, I've heard good things about Sendy. But if you're looking not to host it yourself, I like Buttondown.

I used Zoho Forms (https://www.zoho.com/forms/) for this exact problem on my LP (https://www.skulogi.com/).
You can create up to 3 different forms fully free forever. Really loved how simple it was to setup, done in a few minutes.

Hey there, @ayewo & @andywritescode have both mentioned two of the three that I'd recommend. Tripetto is the other, and is free too.

      @Eamonn
Tripetto looks interesting but the app seem to drop me into the deep end.

I'm lost as to how to use it. After two separate visits, I had to give up 😢.

Perhaps some kind of guided tour using modals would help new users to get accustomed to the tool? It's clearly a tool for power users with super brains 😃.

You can try out ConvertKit for landing page building and email collection.

They have a nice free plan: https://convertkit.com/pricing

You can use a google sheet to do this - really simple and free. You need to enable some permissions on the sheet to be able to post data to it. I think you could use a Google Form as well if you wanted a no code version. I'm sure you can embed them.

I used TypeForm for typeperf.com that worked pretty well to start with. Just switched to Drip to handle more functionality (e.g. email flows)

If you don't want a backend, where are you going to store it? Someone else's backend? That's unlike to be reliable, unlimited and free (for long).

I don't know what stack you are using. The big CMS-es probably have a free plugin for this kind of thing. Otherwise, you're a developer, write some code lol.

Airtable. You can convert a db into a form that you can easily embed onto your site.

I wrote a serverless function to do this, quick and easy. This way I retain control over styling, post-submission behavior, and branding. It's also free and I can avoid any widget blocking (as happens with Substack widgets).

    substack is free

    but i would use emailoctopus

i am on emailoctopus and have 1600 subscribers i pay zero, nothing, nada.

    But soon will.

For ScaffoldReact I am using EmailOctopus.

I have built my own custom landing page and am using their API but I believe they also have templates you can use to quickly get something up and running.

I would recommend them based on my experience so far 🙂

I know this is late but if anyone is still looking for a simple solution to collect email from the landing page for running early access or beta access. I have created a tool to build a viral waiting list with no-code. Please do check LaunchList and let me know if you have any questions.
