I have an online course and I check how many students are actively learning on a day-to-day basis

Do you have paid content?
Once launched key metric will be amount of people that have paid
On my last project registered users (very similar to active) was the one.

We chose this metrics as this is a leading indicator of usage of the product and positively correlates to the revenue.
