What is the single biggest missing thing on IH for you?

For me its advice/help from experts to identifying business opportunities in the industry. Experts can easily identify the gaps in the market but for some of us its very difficult and error prone process. I greatly feel the need for discussions to help identify business opportunities.

I'd love to see a space where people with businesses who are past launch for more intermediate and advanced discussions to take place.

Basically, once your business fits the criteria for an IndieHackers interview, unlock a new discussion area for those people!

I had a similar feeling to you, but on reflection I don't actually need that at all...

That need is fulfilled for me by Twitter, emails, masterminds, and the occasional call or coffee.

Although it sounds like a great idea and something I should want, I'm not sure what I'd actually use it for...

Hello Kishore..I liked the question...so I wrote down a few thoughts

    • A resources library page - a curated space where I can quickly find useful info that saves me time & money .

    • Chat / DM - Sometimes I would like to discuss a project privately in real time

    • Jobs - I would like to help fellow IHer's who are struggling and need some work , I would rather give that work to someone in our community , than someone else....I am blessed now..but I remember the days when I could only afford ramen and hotdogs...helping out a few people in my community would be a great way to give back .

    • Marketplace - There are many great products showcased on IH...a place for makers to sell their wares or services to the community

    • AD space - Personally been planning to ask @csallen to consider a proposal to utilize unused space on IH for ads - but only for IHer's who have had active accts for 6 months....NO corporate sponsors...that space located by the hashtags button would be perfect .

    • Video tutorials - I have been an inventor for 30 years...but I got into the coding game late..a video resource showing me how to design / build SaaS and websites ..videos on how to build a successful business...email marketing ,how to read analytics , how to maintain client relationships ,advertising , product submission tips etc would all be invaluable to the community .

    • Freebies - IHer's have great products..and sometimes people want to share things with the community..Its a well known basic marketing technique that introduces new potential customers to various products

    • Mental health advice - yes..seriously….I have been in the maker game for over 30 years..its tough...I have seen families destroyed...good marriages go up in flames , children neglected ,mortgages under water , finances drained and bankruptcies declared , friendships broken..and a few fist fights...

Diet , Exercise , Relationships , Knowing when to take down time , Alcohol/ Chems , those factors - all play a part in our daily lives no mater race , color ,creed or sexual orientation..a few articles on how to handle these things wouldn't hurt .

    • Lurker space - I was a luker here for a long time....I just stood in the shadows..watching and learning...a few tips on joining the community...what we stand for...how newbies are treated here...would all go a long way in growing this communities members .

    • Personal Journal - A daily journal here on IH to document users journeys..could be made public or kept private

    • Crowd Funding - I have seen more than 1 or 2 projects that I wouldn't mind having made an investment in - IHer's would be able to fund projects they are interested in seeing brought to market ...Users could select from a list/profile
and contribute funds..maybe even earn a few dollars .

    • Sticky notes - It would be helpful to be able to make notes here on interesting content and keep them organized .

The ability to document my personal journey.

Site speed. Fix that and I'd consume more content.

  5. 3

being able to either direct-message people, or else being able to securely pass contact info back and forth without posting it online for a bot to find

If you read enough of people's pain points here on IH (or any other community for that matter) a ton of business opportunities reveal themselves.

I love the quotes but often they are gone too quickly, maybe a pause button would be cool, or a button to read the last quote.

I agree. And sometimes its gone before I finish reading and I am left with that itch to know the remaining quote, Grrrrrrrr.

I'd love to see the ability to mute posts, articles, milestones and stories from specific users, sort of the opposite of the current "follow" feature. That way we could decide for ourselves whether we wanted to see updates from people who use IH primarily for self-promotion instead of genuine discussion.

Other than that, it would be great to see YouTube get the same integration on IH as other social media. It is, after all, the largest. Unlike the others, it's also legitimately an educational platform.

YT is also less negative in psychological impact than the others, particularly Instagram.

Finally, having just set up a product, I saw that the only option for connecting traffic was Google Analytics. There are a lot of customer privacy and other reasons not to put that on a site, so it would be great if other options like Keen.io, Mixpanel, or just an API we could conform to were supported.
