What is visual search? How to optimize your content for it?

The internet has evolved a lot over the past couple of years. And one big and noticeable change is the way people search for information online.

Earlier, to find something online, you would have to type in your search queries in the search box of Google or any other search engine you're using.

Then came the voice search, and now you can look for information using the visual search feature. Visual search is an advanced technology in which search engines use Artificial Intelligence to help buyers look for different products using any type of image instead of keywords or text.

This technology features deep tagging, which is an image-to-text feature that makes images interpretable by search engines.

But to make your website images visual search friendly, you have to optimize your content for it. So how do you do that? Let's find out.

1. Add Different Images

Visual search is all about images. So if you want to optimize your content for visual search, you have to add different images of your product.

Many marketers use a single image of their product on their website or the e-Commerce platform they are using.

Doing that isn't a good idea because adding a single image would mean relying on just that one picture to attract leads. If your leads miss that image, you will end up losing a potential customer, and your lead might opt for a competitor instead.

Adding multiple images increases your chances of being discovered by your leads irrespective of which angle the product is viewed from. When you add your product image from different angles, it's easier to pop up in search results, even when people use an image from the back to do a search.

2. Optimize your Image Title and Description

The next effective way to create visual search-friendly images is by optimizing them with a title and a description. By adding a name and description to your image, you let people know what the image is about.

The best way to add image title and description is to add the keywords to them. The textual context for your images helps you give a little more information about the image.

This information helps your website users understand the image better when the graphic can't be loaded. And not just that.

It even helps visually impaired users understand the content on your page. So by adding a name and description to your image, you are not only making it visually search-friendly but are also boosting your website SEO.

3. Add Alt tags

When you upload an image on the internet, search engines can't really understand what the image is about. So you need to interpret it for them. Alt tags are just about that. It helps search engines understand what message the image is trying to convey to the users.

And just like the image name and description, alt tags too can help improve the accessibility of your images and increase user experience. Another brilliant reason alt tags are important is that they can instantly increase the relevance of your images and attract leads to your website.

4. Be Active on Social Media

Another amazing way to optimize your images for visual search is to be active on social media. This is important because it helps you stay relevant and increase your visibility too. This, in turn, will help your product images pop up more easily when people make a visual search of products that are related or similar to yours.

So these are a few ways to optimize your images for visual search. We hope you found this post helpful. If you did, do let us know in the comments below. We would love to hear from you.

    Insightful! Thank you for this.
Image search will only be helpful for certain kinds of businesses which have some product (mostly tangible). Is there any way services based business can optimise for it? I can't think of any examples or possible scenarios.
Do share your thoughts on it.
