What is your framework for monetizing content and why?

I am overwhelmed with all the ways and opportunities to monetize content or expertise like:

  • ebooks/pdfs
  • courses on teachable/skillshare
  • video series
  • paid newsletter/community
  • lists/databases

I must be missing more things but this already introduces a lot of options if you branch it out across different customer archetypes/personas. So how do you figure this out?

I also think it depends on what your audience wants. I know, this is an easy question to ask and a tough one to answer, but I think it matters. For example, if your audience actually wants to meet and learn from each other, then a community is best. If your audience is for your unique insights, then a newsletter is best. Context matters here, in my opinion

You find what works for you best. What medium do you like? Which medium excites you? Which one are curious about all the time? Which one will force you to do better and better?

Which monetization path suits your needs or your style? Courses are one and done. build then market. Subscriptions need sales and then constant re-engagement to fight churn.

Which route suits your audience better? Do they need to see your content before buying? What payment options work best for them?

I got sick of charging $5 or $10 a month so I made my newest project Bettersheets.co a lifetime access. Now I put videos in when I can. Goal is to create 100 videos. And I don't have to bother about anything else. Just make videos, then make marketing for 3-6 months later.
