What is your go-to software/app for taking notes or writing down new ideas?

Working on a simple note-taking annotation language, I'm curious where IH prefer to take notes, thanks!

What is your go-to software/app for taking notes or writing down new ideas?
  1. Local notepad (windows notepad, notepad++, etc.)
  2. Online app (Notion, Evernote, Roam Research, etc.)
  3. Handwritten

iOS notes as it's simple and syncs between mac and phone.

Tell us more about what you are working on!

Its a way to label/organize notes in any text format which can be dumped directly to a graph visualization for network analysis, using the concept of nodes & relationships. There are some apps that already implement note-taking and visualization, but my goal was to make a super lightweight language that could work with any graph library, not application specific.

I'm very curious about this as I'm also preparing to build something similar.
Have you chosen a technical stack already?

For graphs above 1K nodes (which note-taking system can quickly grow to), DOM-based graph visualizations quickly become too slow. So I'm looking into Canvas-based solutions.

For a somewhat similar project I am using react-sigma,Neo4j,and express/node. I have tried the majority of the graphing libraries out there and sigmajs(I used react-sigma) gives you the option to use webgl or canvas for rendering. https://github.com/vasturiano/force-graph is also great for canvas-based rendering. The main issue I've had is just getting full control over user interactions and state management within the graph(node/edge updates, camera control, graph refreshing), along with a clean workflow with your database.

Those look great, thanks for sharing!

I need to get my hands dirty and try a few things. I want to screenshot DOM nodes and project those screenshots as visualizations for the graph nodes. That way the graph could show more interesting content than triangles and squares with a label :)

iOS Notes - and usually for Meetings and more „complex“ notes I like Dropbox Paper a lot.

try zipdo co for meeting notes! PS: I'm the founder ;D but it is really the best app to take meeting notes.

I’ve been between Bear and Notion. Bear for it’s simplicity and Notion for the endless possibilities. Been waiting years for a Bear upgrade which is in the works, but so far can’t complain.

      btw I hope you don't mind @aldensully.
I took your poll format for tab management extension/apps!

Cool. I have a few products I've created. I saw where it said you're making your own note-taking app in the comments. Do you have a link to it or is it still in the makings?
