What is your opinion about Application Analytics?

If you develop desktop software, what is your opinion about Application Analytics?

SoftMeter ( http://www.starmessagesoftware.com/softmeter/ ) is an application analytics library that developers can include in their software products and see how users use the software.

While trying to push and market SoftMeter, I am getting the impression that the vast majority of desktop application developers are not very familiar with this concept or consider the application analytics as not a priority.
Something that they will look into only if the sales are not as expected.

What is your opinion about it?
Have you thought about using application analytics?
Do you already use this technique?
