What is your preferred time during the day to receive a newsletter?

Hey everyone!

I recently have asked the same question on Twitter to learn more when people prefer to receive their newsletters.

In Mailist, we are trying to find the best time people can receive their personalized newsletters without choosing custom hour during the day.

Is there a pattern we should follow?

When do you like to receive newsletters? (and have time to read it)
  1. Morning ☀️
  2. Lunch time
  3. After work, when commuting (~5PM)
  4. Evening
  5. Weekend only

When I wake up, I usually see a lot of emails in the mailbox and mark most of them as read later (and forget!). Those that I receive in the evening are the ones that I actually read as soon as possible.

I don’t care. What I like about email is that is asynchronous. I will read it when I have the time for it wether is on the weekend, a weekday evening or a break at work.

After 5pm sounds the best for me. That's when the 'me time' is starting and I have the opportunity to read up on stuff.

Leaning towards morning for me. But I think you still need to identify this with your existing users, our behavior might be different.

For me, when it arrives doesnt matter. But I will usually read them when I get into work while I am tuning into the work day.

At my old job (we produced and sold events during a 3 weeks festival and throughout the year), we had a study for this particular question.

The most profitable group of users were the ones who received their newsletter (with CTAs, of course) at exactly 11h45am - right before lunch. The logic goes that the email providers have enough time to process the email, distribute it, and for the enduser's phone to fetch that email on time for lunch at noon.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. Any particular day during the week? I’ve read multiple times that Tuesday/Wednesday works the best. Do you agree?

I prefer everything in the morning, lol. That's when I'm most productive and tolerant.

I usually gather links throughout the week and catch up on them on weekends 👌

That is smart! But do you actually read them after all?
