What is your relationship with physical fitness, as a indie hacker or a solo developer?

  1. Not a priority in my life currently, and it probably won't be for the next year
  2. I do something on and off but nothing consistent
  3. I have a consistent long term (> 1 year) fitness routine

For those with a consistent long term (>1 year) fitness routine, also curious to know how much time per week do you spend and if you if it's on your own or working with a a fitness coach/trainer, etc.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I was very active in my younger years. The moment I went to university I somehow stopped doing any exercise. During my first job my mental and physical health went downhill. I mainly attribute this to my mental state. The body just followed.
I started to run before work. It helped me a lot go get my sanity back. Moving in nature just resets my mind. I make a lot of important decisions while I am out running. No distractions. Helps me a lot.

In the beginning I ran maybe 2-3 times per week. Found the world of trail running moved to the alps and now doing 10-13h of running per week. I do work with a coach but do my runs mainly alone. I love the solitude of moving alone in the mountains hours on end 😅

Hi @amax thank you for sharing that story. Do you use anything to track your runs, do you write down which days you ran and how long, etc? Or is that not really important? :)

Also btw, I am very interested in your project For Human Sake and did the survey Benjamin posted.

I have a sports watch and track my runs trough that. I do roughly compare training weeks but I go more by feel then by numbers.
Runs in the mountains are not really comparable to each other. The weather, steepness etc makes it hard to compare runs.
Also I do not really run a lot of flat stuff so the mile spilts are not very important to me. Its more about the time on the feet!

Gotcha. That makes sense. Once the habit is integral part of your life, you don't need to track things that closely.

40 pushups per day, more than enough

Hi @EtherPaul - do you use anything to track that habit? Like do you cross off each day that you do the 40 pushups. Do you look back on your streaks as motivation to keep going? :)

Everything is in my head, I don't go to sleep until I have done those 40 pushups. It takes less than 10 minutes and keeps me in a good shape. Started this as a new year resolution for 2020, so during January already did 40*31=1240.

Awesome! I like simple workout routines. 31 days down, keep it up!
P.S. If I can help it I want to be able to do push-ups when I'm 80!
