What level is your web hosting ignorance?

I have seen Indie hackers a lot in Google serps. It seems welcoming and a good mix from marketing people and developers so I thought good to ask here.

How many of you successful online gurus know more about web hosting than just cPanel and cheap shared hosting? I think there are 3 levels of webmasters on the internet right now:

  1. focused on design/UI/etc and using cPanel hosting
  2. more aware of performance, SEO, etc and using expensive hosting
  3. understand some geekier stuff, and prefer to manage their own cloud servers to save a lot of money and top performance and they can choose which city and datacenter for every site for top SEO and flexibility/etc

This is my conclusion past few years. And why I got sick of shared hosting lying to me and slowing down my WP sites and then got tired of paying for premium hosting that cared more about their fancy tools than my websites.

And that is when brands like ServerPilot, RunCloud, etc started taking advantage of the cheap cloud prices and geeky developers were saving hundreds of dollars using it, but normal people didn't know.

Then it went further. Free open source tools came next like EasyEngine, Centminmod, and SlickStack. No Apache junk, no htaccess files, no more wacky WP plugins hacking and redirecting your site to gambling spam and no more bloated cache plugins cuz Nginx has better caching.

And yet seems still 99% of actual marketers and entrepreneurs don't know anything about this, and still using Hostgator and Godaddy and very junky cPanel hosting for past 20 years!

I want to know where do the Indie hackers stand? thanks.

What level is your knowledge of Wordpress web hosting for SEO?
  1. Still using cPanel/Apache shared hosting... cuz why not
  2. I have no idea what any of this means, let me go check Google
  3. Using WHM or some *slightly better than shared hosting* VPS server
  4. Paying for high performance Wordpress/etc premium hosting
  5. Manage my own cloud servers for ultimate SEO, freedom, and price
  6. Using some "UI panel" to manage my cloud servers for me

Well I was really hoping a lot of users would participate but seems everyone who is not already using cloud servers is too embarrassed to comment or something...

Thanks for your thoughtful comments and voting in my poll.
