I've been looking around and Intercom's seems to be the most complete solution but it can't get way to expensive for a bootstrapped business.
What alternatives are you?
tawk.to ...free, and does the trick for me. don't need all the bells and whistles.
Intercom is nice, but gets cost-prohibitive if you have a lot of users or a low margin business. I've used them in some capacity since around ~2012. They have changed their pricing structures and parsed out their products more times than I can count, which is super frustrating. Finding a quality replacement is easier if you are web-only. Once you need web AND "native" mobile support, the options get much thinner.
Intercom continues to move upmarket, so seems like an opportunity for new entrants, especially with native mobile support (widgets, libraries) that are easier to integrate. No small feat.
An addition to the options already listed ( drift, crisp etc...), you might also take a look at ZenDesk Chat and FreshChat. Not as delightful to use or feature rich, but for basic chat functionality (as denoted by the little chat window in the bottom right corner of most sites), they do that specific job at a fraction of the cost.
I'm building one called Letterbase: https://letterbase.io
It's designed for bootstrapped businesses, so it doesn't get crazy expensive like Intercom.
I'm very responsive to feedback and am always adding new features. If you'd like, try it out and let me know what you think :)
Looking pretty good but it doesn't have a real time chat yet right?
Not yet - will be building live chat in the near future.
We were on the Intercom startup plan, and eventually got dropped in the growth plan which was 150USD/mo. Way too expensive for us...
Made the switch to Dashly Feb 2019. Currently locked into early user pricing, which is great.
The team is operating from Russia, but they are super friendly and supportive 👍
We've been really happy with Help Scout for both chat and email support
We've used a few. My favourite is Intercom in terms of features and functionality, but they are CRAZY expensive when you finish the Startup plan. Crisp and Drift were also great, but were missing some important functionality that we needed.
We settled on HelpScout, which is pretty good, but missing some of the functionality that we needed, but we managed to get around some of them because their API allows us to mitigate some of the problems and improve our workflow (https://devan.codes/blog/2019/5/9/building-a-helpscout-sidebar-widget), plus our documentation has always been on HelpScout docs so the integration is nice.
I was searching for an intercom alternative yesterday as well. I found the following alternatives:
I think Crisp is a good alternative cause it's relatively cheap. Intercom looks amazing but is really expensive imho.
Crisp doesn't look good, but the email campaigns feature is only available in the Unlimited plan and it's a bit expensive at 95€
I've came across Tidio (tidio.com) it seems interesting. Anyone has experience with it? It has a Free tier with a lot that Intercom can do like Campaigns, etc.
I've been looking into more affordable solutions and at the moment the Drift free plan seem to do a lot what I need. I'll get more into it and post my experience using it.
