What makes an adjacent career move feel believable instead of flattering?

I am working on Career Pivot Studio, a product for experienced professionals who want realistic adjacent roles instead of generic career-quiz output.

The hardest problem so far has been trust. People often look at a suggested next role and think: maybe in theory, but nobody would actually hire me for that.

The failure modes I keep seeing are:

  • too much retraining hidden behind a clean title
  • weak transferability from the current role
  • no concrete proof asset to bridge the gap
  • advice that stops at a roadmap instead of execution

If you have ever tried to pivot roles, what made a next-step suggestion feel believable or unbelievable to you?
